How We Decided
There’s a myriad of inks and fluids for printing on the market these days. To narrow our search for the best printer ink, we opted to focus on aqueous inks, known for having dyes or pigments as colorants and water as their primary liquid carrier.
Value and convenience were two important factors in our search for exceptional ink cartridges. Since we wanted ink cartridges that could help you save money and time, we selected high-yield ink cartridges as well as convenient multipacks. Of course, high-quality and long-lasting prints are ideal for any printing job. We, therefore, favored ink cartridges that produced exceptional quality prints. Last but not least, we gave bonus points to brands that are doing their part to save the environment. Additionally, if you are more concerned with saving money, check out our guide for the best printer with cheap ink.
Best Printer Ink Buying Guide
The Most Important Factors to Consider
- Compatibility: Before buying ink cartridges, always make sure that they’re compatible with your printer.
- What this means is that if you want a printer with cheap ink, make sure the cartridge will work with your chosen printer.
- You can even find generic ink cartridges that will fit with a top-tier inkjet printer for home.
- Moreover, the ink doesn’t have to be the same brand as your printer. As long as the ink cartridges are compatible with your printer, you should be able to use them.
- On the other hand, if you get a printer that has the longest-lasting ink cartridges, you won’t have to buy ink too frequently.
- Printing needs: Do you print in black and white? Or do you print in color more often? Determining your printing needs can help you select the right type of ink in the right amount so you can save a lot of money in the long run.
- This also includes if you’re using a printer wirelessly or with an ethernet connection.
- Warranty: A product with a warranty doesn’t make it any less effective than those without one.
- It does, however, mean that the manufacturer cares about customer satisfaction.
- If you encounter any issues with the inks, a warranty ensures you get replacements without spending more money.
- In summary, always make sure you take the warranty, especially if you’ve bought an expensive 3D printer like the Monoprice MP Voxel.
- On the other hand, if you have technical repair experience, then you’ll be able to repair your wireless printing all-in-one printer easily.

Textile inks in 2023. Which ones to choose?
[Updated 03/20/2023]
Selecting textile inks
Every DTG printing company faces the challenge of selecting the best textile inks. But everyone has their own quality criteria and tasks to be solved, so we have collected in one article all our experience and the experience of our colleagues in terms of using the most popular textile inks on the market in the Russian Federation. Indeed, the quality of the print applied to a T-shirt, its resistance to washing and the lifespan of the most expensive part of a textile printer, the print head, directly depend on textile ink.
Textile ink is a rather complex chemical compound. The color pigment penetrates the structure of the fabric and is securely fixed with a heat press, which evaporates excess moisture and allows the pattern to remain on the fabric, despite various environmental influences. In addition to color accuracy, brightness and durability, ink must also have sufficient fluidity so as not to clog expensive components and parts of a textile printer.
Next, we will talk about inks for the most common textile printers based on Epson printheads. For convenience, we have arranged the ink in the order of their introduction to the market (from newest to oldest). And so, what are they like:
Dupont Artistri 5500 series
New and the latest development from the world famous brand that has proven itself in the textile ink market. Dupont announced a new formula of the 5500 series in 2022 and in 2023 our company was the first to bring them to the Russian market. Improved density and brightness of white (subjectively – by 20-30%), extended shelf life of white ink up to 1 year, less precipitation and the ability to simultaneously print DTF and DTG – all this is the new Dupont Artistri P5500. A separate detailed article about this new ink is available at the link.
Kodak EDTG
New to the DTG market. Kodak is a well-known international brand that introduced a line of direct digital printing products in 2020 – KODACOLOR EDTG & RDTG inks. Kodak really made a breakthrough: this ink has the best color reproduction according to tests, excellent reviews in the US market (and it is one of the largest in the field of DTG printing), a pleasant price for your wallet, expiration dates of 2 years for CMYK and 1 year for White , excellent baking speed in 45-60 seconds. In fact, such is the “killer” Dupont. Another advantage of Kodak is the declared compatibility with all Epson heads. That is, yes, even for the Epson SC-F2100 (hello to the owners of these wonderful printers suffering from the cost of original ink). We have been testing Kodak ourselves since December 2020 and 4 months later
tests, we can honestly say: Kodak ink is fire! 🙂 Despite our
love for Image Armor, we transferred half of our printing equipment to Kodak.
Image Armor E-series
Manufactured
in USA. With the help of our company, Image Armor appeared in Russia in 2018 and
immediately found their fans due to excellent brightness and durability
print, baking time is 4 times less than other brands – only 35
seconds, long shelf life: 2 years for SMUK, 1 year for White.
Image Armor inks are more demanding on microclimatic conditions in
production room: it is desirable to have a minimum humidity
45%, and preferably 55-60%, otherwise white ink may periodically dry out in
the print head, especially when the print head is idle for a long time.
equipment. In other matters, air humidity is important for the operation of any
ink. In general, this is an option for more experienced professionals who
have already filled their hands, printing with other inks, and who have already understood everything
shortcomings of their ink and decided to find an alternative solution.
DuPont Artistri 5000 series
The most famous textile inks in the world are also produced in the USA. The very first textile inks were
popularity due to good color reproduction, almost absolute
harmless to the printer (there is a rumor that to break the printer with ink
DuPont is possible only on purpose), good resistance to washing.
Some experts noted dips in the areas of red and green
colors when printing complex patterns, but this is rather a special case. Term
validity CMYK – 1 year, White – 6 months. All in all, this is a classic.
the choice of many newcomers. But you will have to pay more for this choice, as well as
put up with longer baking times.
FireBird . Another manufacturer from the USA. The price is even more than Dupont. Good brightness with average wash resistance, although not a single T-shirt survived the claimed 55 washes at 60 °. Some users have experienced drying of both CMYK and White channels of the print head already for 2 months of use, and the number of complaints about this annoying nuance does not fit into the statistical error. In fairness, a sufficient number of companies work on this ink for 1-2 years and experience no problems, but use it at your own peril and risk, you can get a good print, but “kill” the print head.
Sensient Elvajet . Produced in Switzerland. Once quite popular ink, someone even considered it a worthy alternative to DuPont, although this is far from the truth. White ink is almost unrealistic to find in stock, CMUK give out useless color reproduction, especially when printing photographs and complex images with gradients. But they are almost completely harmless for the printer, although there are complaints about the clogged Magenta channel. In general, it is possible to print simple drawings, but the savings will be very doubtful, given their cost.
Colors . Produced in China and Korea, with the addition of plutonium – glow in the dark! (joke, Korea is South). Relatively budget ink, which shows good color reproduction and practically does not cause problems for a textile printer, but the wash fastness of white ink is very poor, literally 1-2 washes and the print noticeably fades. If you print only on white T-shirts, then you can take it, but you should not print on black ones.
DcTec . Russian-Chinese textile ink manufacturer. Positioned as the best ink in terms of price / quality ratio. Not many companies work with this ink, but white people still take DuPont. When printing SMUK, the result is quite decent, but you can get much better for about the same money. Conclusion – if you want to experiment, you can take it. If there is no desire, it is better to choose a trusted manufacturer.
To sum it all up, there are many inks on the market, each with its pros and cons. Based on our experience and the experience of our colleagues, we recommend that beginners use Kodak inks with Kodak primers. Or the latest Dupont Artistri P5500 formula paired with Image Armor or Kodak primers. And if you are a conservative person and a lover of the classics, then you can choose the old Dupont formula, but why, when there is a new formula?
Best sublimation ink ?️ TOP 9 for Epson | Canon
When working on sublimation projects, one of the most important accessories to worry about is ink. The ink determines how similar the final design is to the original design and how vibrant the colors are.
As you know, sublimation is a process in which a solid material turns into a gas without passing through the liquid phase. The best sublimation ink, encouraged by heat, transfers completely and almost without mess from paper to work surface.
It bleeds through the surface, bonding in the gaseous state to the polyester, retaining its original color and design.
The ideal sublimation ink has a low viscosity and won’t clog your printer’s tubes or get clogged with fine particles for a smooth process. While brightness is critical, we really should be looking for reliable ink accuracy.
This means that the colors are not only bright and vibrant, but can also show the depth and subtlety needed to print skin tones and nature scenes.

Best Sublimation Ink Buying Guide
Compatibility
This is the first thing to check when buying sublimation ink. Even the best cartridge or refillable bottle will be useless if it doesn’t work with your particular printer. Check not only the brand of the printer, but also the model, this also matters.
Transfer rate
Transfer rate refers to how much ink transfers from paper to platen. You need a transfer rate of at least 90% for bright and accurate designs.
Drying time
Since sublimation passes directly from solid to liquid phase, drying should be minimal.
However, some of the cheaper brands of ink use a lot of water in their formulation, which can take longer to dry. The more water, the worse the ink and the longer it takes to dry.
Particle size
Sublimation ink should be smooth and fine particles. In addition to preventing clogging of the printer, fine particles also contribute to a better end face design.
When you use a magnifier on mugs, t-shirts, etc. printed with coarse ink, you can see them all the way through the design. Ideally, particles should not be larger than 0.1 microns.
Color reproduction
Although you want your ink to be bright, you don’t want it to be oversaturated. More importantly, they reproduce the original design colors and have depth.
This is what will give you a professional look, especially on faces and skin tones. The best way to check this is to print out a black drawing and check how clean it is, as opposed to dark purple or grey.
FAQ:
Can I keep changing sublimation ink brands?
It is best to always use one brand of ink or empty the cartridge before changing to another brand. This will avoid contamination and ensure the consistency of your designs.
What is the difference between sublimation ink and regular ink?
Conventional ink uses very small particles of colored material that are printed onto paper to create patterns.
Sublimation ink, on the other hand, is carried into the environment in a gaseous state and completely encapsulates the polyester molecules, creating a durable design.
What is an ICC profile?
Every printer needs to be able to print thousands of colors from just four or six primary colors. Although they already have this ability, different brands offer slightly different shades, which affects the result.
The ICC color profile is a guide that many brands offer to download so that your printer can compare ink colors with original colors.
