Nvidia’s graphics cards — both the new RTX 4090/4080 and the previous generation RTX 30-series — often tend to be overpriced. We’ve axed most of the 30-series, as those cards have been displaced by the newer, better, and often cheaper 40-series parts. The RTX 4070 for instance trades blows with the RTX 3080 10GB, costs at least $100 less, and uses 30% less power; it also supports DLSS 3 Frame Generation and some other new features. Similar arguments can be made for the RTX 4060 Ti against the RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 4070 Ti against the RTX 3090, or the RTX 4080 and 4090 against any previous generation part.

The RTX 3060 and 3050 are really the only Nvidia cards from the Ampere generation that are still worth a look, and even then we have to exercise caution. Nvidia will launch the RTX 4060 in the next month, with a $299 MSRP. If the previously established patterns hold, it will likely easily beat the RTX 3060 12GB in performance and power, though we will miss the 12GB VRAM configuration.

AMD often offers more value for your money, and it has some excellent deals in the budget to midrange bracket. The RX 6600 dipped as low as $189 on Black Friday, and the cheapest we’re seeing is now $199. The RX 6650 XT at $259 is a good value as well if you can spend more.

All of AMD’s GPUs are selling below their original MSRPs these days, which they should be considering some of the GPUs are two years old. Of course, some of those MSRPs were inflated thanks to the GPU shortages of the past two years.

There’s also the Radeon RX 7900-series to contend with, priced at $899 and $999 and potentially delivering up to 50% more performance than the RX 6950 XT. That’s pushing prices down on the older GPUs, which is what we’d expect, whereas Nvidia prices have shot up to “leave room” for the 30-series.

Intel Arc A750 49.6 $229 (Intel Arc A750 Limited Edition) Amazon | Newegg
Intel Arc A380 21.3 $119 (ASRock Arc A380 Challenger) Amazon | Newegg

Like Nvidia, there aren’t really many official “deals” as such on Intel’s Arc GPUs. At least the Arc A770, A750, and A380 are all available for purchase, including the ASRock A770 8GB. MSRPs also dropped on some of those (the A750 and A770 8GB) to make the parts more competitive.

Performance from Arc GPUs continues to improve, with the A750 and A770 generally beating Nvidia’s RTX 3060. They cost less than the Nvidia card as well, and (usually) deliver superior ray tracing performance compared to AMD’s GPUs. But with rasterization performance roughly matching the RX 6650 XT, the Arc 700-series at best looks like a tie with its AMD competition.

What to Look for in a Graphics Card Deal

When shopping for a graphics card, consider the following.

🔎 What resolution, settings do you want to play at? A low-end budget graphics card can play games at 1080p in medium settings, but if you want to play at ultra settings, you’ll need to get at least a mid-range card. As you move up the stack of cards, you can play at 2K resolution and higher settings or, with the priciest cards, 4K.

🔎 How many fps do you consider smooth? Most people consider 30 fps the bare minimum for playability and 60 fps decent. However, if you want less lag for eSports gaming, you’ll want to be able to go to over 100 fps at reasonable settings. See our GPU benchmark hierarchy to find out how each GPU fares.

🔎 Do you have enough power? Make sure that you have enough capacity from your power supply to support the card. If you’re not sure, use a tool such as Newegg’s power supply calculator to see how much you need. If your power supply can’t handle the card, either get a new PSU or a different card.

🔎 Will it fit in your case? If you’ve got a small PC case, make sure you check the length of the card against the case’s clearance numbers.

GPU deals in the UK: Blighty’s best deals
Performance comparison: The GPU hierarchy
MSRP list: The original launch price of the cards

We can happily finally report that there are some really good cheap graphics card deals, and it feels good to be able to type that. Of course, the latest GPUs of Nvidia’s RTX 40-series and AMD’s RX 7000-series are still prohibitively expensive, but genuinely powerful 1080p graphics cards are available at the sub-$250 mark. And by the way, Intel is definitely in the fray at the budget end of the market now that it’s sorted out its drivers.

However, the most exciting thing about the latest GPUs is that they’re available and pretty much all available for MSRP. The RX 7900 XT is even under MSRP right now. Though the fact the RTX 4070 Ti’s overclocked options are being discounted to the reference price makes that almost a moot point.

There are savings on the last-gen graphics cards, but it’s a tougher sell for the RTX 3060 and above. Those cards are still priced high enough to get close to the latest generation of GPUs. We know both AMD and Nvidia will launch more affordable versions of their RDNA 3 and Ada Lovelace architectures over the next few weeks. That makes those expensive old cards even harder to recommend unless the deal is a steal. We are watching to see what happens with RTX 3080 cards after the RTX 4060 Ti launches since we might see some decent deals from retailers looking to clear some shelf space. But again, unless it’s a considerable discount, you should hold off for newer, affordable GPUs coming soon.

But there are some excellent options at the mainstream and budget ends of the market, and it will be a lot longer before we get some new-gen cards in the sub-$400 price bracket.

Where are the best graphics card deals?

Graphics card deals

ASRock RX 6600 | 8GB | 1,792 shaders | 2,491MHz | $199.99 $179.99 at Newegg (save $20 with promo code VGAEXCAA686)
The RX 6600 is a quality 1080p GPU now that its price creeps ever lower. At the sub-$200 point, we’re getting a budget graphics card that delivers high frame rates in the latest games at top 1080p graphics presets. At least AMD and Intel are bringing GPU pricing down, eh?

ASRock Phantom Gaming D RX 6600 XT | 8GB GDDR6 | 2,048 shaders | 2,607MHz boost | $224.99 at Newegg
Another nice budget offering now it’s seen a price drop; this card will beat the RTX 3060, and while it’s not as fast as the RX 6650 XT on our best graphics cards list, it’s a great budget alternative, especially this sub-$250 price.

ASRock Challenger Arc A750 | 8GB | 28 Xe Cores | 2,050MHz | $289 $249. 99 at Newegg (save $40)
The Intel discrete graphics cards have only gotten more relevant since their inauspicious launch. With successive driver releases increasing performance and now a significant price drop, the A750 is now one of the most tempting budget GPUs around. It’s a bit more power hungry than AMD’s RX 6600 but is a super capable 1080p card knocking both RTX 3050 and RTX 3060 out of the value GPU stakes. This ASRock version also performs slightly better than the stock Intel-made version, too, and now costs the same.

ASRock Challenger D RX 6700 XT | 12GB GDDR6 | 2560 shaders | 2,615MHz boost | $329.99 £309.99 at Newegg (save $20 with code VGAEXCAA766)
The RX 6700 XT is still our favorite mid-range gaming GPU, competing with Nvidia’s regularly more expensive RTX 3060 Ti. This is the cheapest version we’ve yet found and comes with a solid, dual-fan cooler and a decent price tag. Use promo code VGAEXCAA766 to get the final $20 off.

ASRock Phantom Gaming Radeon RX 7900 XT | 20GB GDDR6 | 5,376 shaders | 2,450MHz boost | $899 $779.99 at Newegg (save $120 with code VGAEXCAA744)
Seeing a bunch of RX 7900 XTs selling for well less than MSRP is a welcome sight. What we like about ASRock Phantom is that it should run quieter than your average RX 7900 XT. We all could do with a little noise from our PC.

PNY RTX 4070 Ti | 12GB | 7,680 shaders | 2,610MHz boost | $839.99 $799.99 at Best Buy (save $40)
This is a straightforward reference-spec card from PNY and comes with the same cooler we’ve checked out on the company’s RTX 4080. And it worked well on the beefier chip, so I’m not concerned about how effective it’ll be with an RTX 4070 Ti. It’s only a modest discount and still only at the base $799 reference price, but is still a great alternative if you couldn’t pick up a Founders Edition card.

ZOTAC RTX 4080 16GB Trinity OC | 16GB GDDR6X | 9728 shaders | 2520MHz boost | $1,299.99 $1,149.99 at Amazon (save $150)
Look at that! An RTX 4080 is discounted down below its MSRP price. Honestly, we’ll take whatever wins we can get when it comes to high-end GPUs, even if that does still make it far more than the card should be sold at. But Nvidia has seen fit to start the prices high, so any discount below MSRP is worth a look. The RTX 4080 is a serious gaming card, too, and I love the look of the curvy Zotac cooler.

Graphics card deals in the UK

Intel Arc A750 | 8GB | 28 Xe Cores | 2,050MHz | $289 £249.95 at Overclockers
The Intel discrete graphics cards have only gotten more relevant since their inauspicious launch. With successive driver releases increasing performance and now a significant price drop, the A750 is now one of the most tempting budget GPUs around. It’s a bit more power hungry than AMD’s RX 6600 but is a super capable 1080p card knocking both RTX 3050 and RTX 3060 out of the value GPU stakes.

PowerColor RX 6600 Figher | 8GB  | 1,792 shaders | 2,491MHz | £282.48 £209.99 at Ebuyer (save £73.52)
The RX 6600 is a quality 1080p GPU now that its price is creeping ever lower. At the £250 point, we’re getting a budget graphics card that delivers high frame rates in the latest games at top 1080p graphics presets. At least AMD and Intel are bringing GPU pricing down.

Asus RTX 3060 | 12GB | 3,584 shaders | 1,807MHz | £369.99 £264.99 at Ebuyer (save £105 w/ cashback deal)
This is the cheapest real RTX 3060 we’ve found today. There are cheaper 8GB versions, so make sure to keep your eyes out for that. They have the same core spec, memory aside, but that means far lower memory bandwidth.

PowerColor RX 6700 XT Fighter | 12GB | 2,560 shaders | 2,581MHz | £449.99 £364.98 at Ebuyer (save £85.01)
AMD rules the graphics card market’s mainstream and budget ends, and the RX 6700 XT is the best GPU at this price point. The RTX 3060 Ti is still nearly £50 more expensive than the RX 6700 XT and is a little bit slower in many games.

Sapphire Radeon RX 7900 XT | 20GB GDDR6 | 5,376 shaders | 2,400MHz Boost | £899 £749.99 at Overclockers (save £100)
No overclocking here from this Overclockers offering—the irony—but still a much more palatable price-to-performance ratio with that tasty £100 discount.

Zotac RTX 4090 Trinity | 24GB | 16,384 shaders | 2,520MHz | £1,799.99 £1,589.99 at Overclockers (save £210)
I know, I know, cheap graphics card deals, lol. But if you want to grab a third-party RTX 4090 for near the base MSRP of the card here, you go. And the Zotac cards are gorgeous versions of the most powerful graphics card available today. If you can afford it, this is the card to buy right now.

Performance comparison

Every new GPU generation offers new features and possibilities. But rasterized rendering is still the most important metric for general gaming performance across the PC gaming world. Sure, Nvidia GPUs might well be better at the ray tracing benchmarks they more or less instigated, but when it comes to standard gaming performance AMD’s latest line up can certainly keep pace.

It’s also worth noting that the previous generation of graphics cards do still have something to offer, with something like the GTX 1650 Super able to outpace a more modern RTX 3050 in most benchmarks.

We’re not saying you should buy an older card in 2023—AMD’s budget RX 7000-series is a much better deal today—but it’s worth knowing where your current GPU stacks up, or just knowing the lie of the land. But there is also the fact there will be gaming rigs on sale with older graphics cards over the next few days, and if they’re cheap enough they may still be worth a punt as a cheap entry into PC gaming.

We’ve benchmarked all the latest GPUs of this generation, and have tracked their performance against the previous generation in terms of 3DMark Time Spy Extreme scores. Where we don’t have the referential numbers for an older card we have used the average index score from the UL database. These figures track alongside an aggregated 1440p frame rate score from across our suite of benchmarks.
