Read all bring a lot of fun and let you create your “dream” computer. In this article, we will look at the basic principles for selecting and creating your “ideal” computer. Of course, it is extremely difficult to delve into all the nuances in one publication, but I will try to present the information in such a way that a beginner has a template for selecting and assembling his PC. Thus, using this conditional template, a beginner will be able to deepen his knowledge in this area. And in the future, choose a PC that is best suited for its needs.
- Determine the purpose of the PC
- Select components
- Video card
- Hard Drive or SSD
- Power Supply
- Additional Components
- Component Compatibility
- Assembly Process
- Operating System Installation
900 92 RAM
Before you start choosing components for your PC, you need to determine the exact purpose of using your computer. For example, if you plan to use your PC for gaming, you need to choose high performance components. If you plan to use the computer for work, you may need a large amount of memory or a powerful processor for computing. Accordingly, when choosing each of the components, you need to build on your tasks. This will help you not to overpay for the performance or features of the PC, which will be practically not used.
Before you start building your PC, you need to decide which components will be used in it. The choice of components is by far the most important step in assembling a computer. The right choice guarantees you further optimal performance, efficient use of resources, a long service life and a reasonable price. Therefore, before starting the selection of components, you should not rush, but rather take the time to carefully study the issue.
The main components of a computer are the processor, motherboard, video card, RAM, hard or SSD drives, power supply, and chassis. Each of these components has its own characteristics and compatibility, and the right choice depends on the purpose for which you choose a computer. Let’s take a closer look at each of the elements of the PC below.
The processor is the main computing component of a PC that processes data and controls the operation of other components. When choosing a processor, consider the number of cores and threads, clock speed, cache size, manufacturing technology, architecture, and other parameters. It is highly desirable to understand all these parameters, and at least superficially read what this or that characteristic of the processor is responsible for.
Motherboard is the main board that connects all PC components and ensures their interaction. When choosing a motherboard, you need to take into account the socket (connection connector) for the processor, the number of slots for RAM and the slot for video cards, the type of connection of hard drives and SSDs, the presence of integrated components and many other compatibility parameters, the availability of the required number of USB and other ports. All in all, there is a lot to explore here. This issue also needs to be carefully understood in order to assemble your PC.
The video card is responsible for processing graphic data and displaying the image on the monitor. When choosing a video card, you need to take into account the amount of video memory, the frequency of the core and memory, support for various special technologies, and other parameters. Also, when choosing each of the PC components, you need to record their nominal power consumption, we will need this data when choosing a power supply. It is also probably worth saying that if a PC is purchased for work, then you can find a motherboard with an already built-in low-power video card. In general, the next thing to understand is the parameters of video cards.
When choosing RAM, you need to take into account its size, clock frequency, latency and other parameters. RAM is an important component of a PC, responsible for the speed of applications and the operating system. It stores temporary data, which is then processed by the processor. You should also consider the possibility of supporting dual-channel modes if you use two or four memory bars at the same time.
The hard drive or SSD is responsible for storing the operating system, programs, and all other files. When choosing a hard drive or SSD, you need to consider its size and the speed of reading and writing data. SSD drives have faster read and write speeds than hard drives, but can be more expensive and less durable. Often, two drives are installed in a PC, one SSD for the operating system, and a hard drive for storing all other files. This improves PC performance and OS performance in particular.
The power supply is a PC element that provides power to all other components. When choosing a power supply, you need to consider its power and energy efficiency. The power supply must be sufficient for all installed components, and energy efficiency will reduce energy costs. Thus, when choosing all PC components, you need to sum up their power consumption and select a power supply unit with a power reserve of at least 30% of the total consumption.
Cooling of PC components is far from an unimportant factor that ensures stable operation and prevents overheating of all individual components. When choosing a cooling system, it is necessary to take into account its type (air or liquid), the number and speed of rotation of fans, and the noise level.
PC case provides protection for components and their correct and convenient location. When choosing a case, it is necessary to take into account its dimensions, material of manufacture, the number of places for fans and other auxiliary functions. For example, the presence of additional USB connectors or equipment with decorative lighting.
Depending on the purpose of using the computer, additional components may be required, such as a sound card, Wi-Fi adapter, or something similar.
Compatibility must be taken into account when selecting all components. For example, the processor must match the motherboard socket, the video card must match the motherboard interface, the power supply must have the necessary power and connectors for all installed components. The RAM must also support the provided slots on the motherboard, etc.
Thus, the choice of PC components is the most important step in the assembly of any computer. When choosing them, it is necessary to take into account the purpose of use, performance, compatibility and other factors. Therefore, for a successful and correct choice, you need to carefully delve into all the characteristics and compatibility of the above equipment.
After selecting the components, you need to start assembling the computer. First you need to install the motherboard into the case, then install the processor, RAM, video card, hard or SSD drives and power supply into it. When assembling, make sure that all components are properly connected and locked in place. You should also familiarize yourself with how to properly apply thermal paste, in particular on a PC processor.
After assembling the computer, you need to install the operating system, and also make sure that all the necessary drivers are installed. After installing the operating system, you can start customizing the computer for yourself, but this is a completely different topic. Also remember that manufacturers recommend using only licensed software.
Self-assembly and configuration of a PC is, in my opinion, an interesting and educational process that will allow you to create the “perfect” computer for your needs. You need to carefully approach the choice of each element, familiarize yourself with all the characteristics, and clearly understand what each of them is responsible for. When assembling, you must be careful and accurate. As I said in the introduction, all of the above can serve as a template for you to explore the topic in more depth.
