How the new iPad Air 5 (2022) differs from the old iPad Air 4 (2020) – Wylsacom

At the first spring presentation, Apple showed an updated iPad Air.
The fifth generation model features outstanding performance, an improved front camera and new body colors.
Old dimensions, new colors
The recognizable design remains the same: the new generation tablet differs from the old one only in a changed color scheme. Just in case, let me remind you that the iPad Air, in turn, inherited the 2018 iPad Pro case.
The dimensions and weight of the 2022 iPad Air are exactly the same as the 2020 iPad Air, but Apple has updated the color scheme. There are still five colors, but new options have appeared. Here is the current fifth generation:

The dimensions of the case are the same, so accessories from an old tablet will also work. The weight has changed slightly: the Wi-Fi version is 3 grams heavier, but the Wi-Fi and Cellular is 2 grams lighter.
Screen unchanged
The physical dimensions of the display are also unchanged: 10.9-inch diagonal, 2360 × 1640 resolution, 500 nits brightness, True Tone support. Alas, 120Hz and ProMotion remain a feature of the more expensive iPad Pro.

Now with the Apple M1
The main innovation is hidden from view: the iPad Air (2022) has the most powerful Apple M1 system-on-a-chip by the standards of tablets with 8 GB of RAM. At the same time, the amount of internal memory has not increased – you still need to choose between the base 64 GB and the more attractive 256 GB version.
Against the background of the iPad Air (2020) with its 4 GB of RAM and the Apple A14 Bionic, those who load the tablet to the maximum will immediately notice the differences. Heavy games, simultaneous work with a bunch of tabs in browsers, photo or video processing, working with multi-layered images in graphic editors – for these tasks, the new generation iPad Air fits much better than the old one.

The 5th generation iPad Air does not have Thunderbolt like the cooler iPad Pro, but USB-C transfer speeds are double that of the 4th generation iPad Air.
There are no differences in operating time, Apple claims identical figures, stereo speakers are also in place. You can highlight the support for 5G networks, which was not in the old iPad Air. Everything else is identical.

Opinion
I would like to see the new tablet live and evaluate the colors with my own eyes. Indeed, unlike the basic iPad and iPad Pro, which are presented in a boring range, the iPad Air has a much wider choice of colors.
Definitely pleased with the transition to a powerful Apple M1 system and double the amount of RAM, such a tablet will easily last five years. Unfortunately, they did not increase the built-in memory, although it could have been increased, but then the competition between Air and Pro would have been very high.
