Top 7 Best Home Theater Systems
#1 Logitech Z906 5.1 Home Theater System
Our #1 Pick is the Logitech Z906 5. 1 Home Theater System
Award: TOP PICK
WHY WE LIKE IT: The Logitech is a powerful 5.1-channel surround sound home theater system with amazing audio quality, and easy installation, and it is the only one on our list that is THX certified. It’s also incredibly easy to use with a simple remote and receiver.
Read Full Review: Logitech Z906 5.1 Review
- THX certified for the best audio quality
- Easy to install and set up
- Six inputs
- No HDMI
- One-way satellite speakers
The Logitech Z906 is the successor to Logitech’s extremely popular Z5500 home theater system, and it does much to improve upon the previous generation. The sound system maintains superb audio quality with 500 watts of continuous power and well-built speakers. The Z906 is a 5.1-channel surround sound system with 4 satellite speakers, 1 subwoofer, and 1 center channel speaker. These speakers all produce an amazing sound, but be aware that the satellite speakers are only one way, so you won’t get quite as much range as possible in those. Ensure your home theater system has the best RCA cables.
The overall installation is easy enough. The Logitech Z906 is a wired home theater system, and it doesn’t use proprietary connections, so you can easily purchase longer cables, if needed. The Logitech system includes 6 audio input connections on the subwoofer, but it’s, unfortunately, lacking in HDMI cable ports, so you’ll need to connect Blu-Ray players via coaxial or optical S/P-DIF inputs. The system is also really easy to use. The remote is incredibly simple, and the AV receiver is small and clearly labeled. All in all, if you need an excellent all-around home theater system, the Logitech Z906 is the choice for you. If you want to transfer this quality sound to the car, you should also get the best aux cable.
#2 Nakamichi Shockwafe Elite Home Theater System
Our #2 Pick is the Nakamichi Shockwafe Elite Home Theater System
Award: HONORABLE MENTION
WHY WE LIKE IT: The Nakamichi home theater system offers powerful 7-channel surround sound, incredibly simple installation, and dual wireless subwoofers for room-shaking bass. It’s also Dolby Atmos compatible, which provides an unparalleled audio experience.
Read Full Review: Nakamichi Shockwafe Elite Home Theater System Review
- Best bass & Dolby Atmos compatible
- Amazing 7.2.4 surround sound
- 2 wireless subwoofers
- Short-range remote
- Delay when switching inputs
Nakamichi takes a unique approach to surround sound here with just a soundbar, 2 subwoofers, and 2 satellite speakers. The Shockwafe Elite 7.2.4 isn’t a traditional surround sound system with multiple satellite speakers around the room. Instead, the soundbar simulates the work of the front right, left, and center channels, along with wide soundstage speakers for left and right ambient effects. The sound system also includes two wireless subwoofers and two rear two-way speakers. The rear speakers are wired directly to the subwoofers. We were very impressed with the overall sound quality of the system outputs, especially with the Dolby Atmos compatibility.
The overall installation is incredibly simple with the Nakamichi Shockwafe Elite home theater system. Simply plug in the soundbar and subwoofers, power them on, and they will automatically connect. Connect the rear speakers to the subs, and then you’re good to go. The Shockwafe Elite system is also really easy to use with the included remote, but we do wish the remote’s range was a little longer. You get 3 HDMI inputs, an optical input, and a coaxial input for plenty of connectivity options, meaning you can connect plenty of Blu-ray players and gaming consoles. To keep these cables from taking over your entertainment system, try also picking up some of the best cable ties.
#3 JBL Bar 5.1 Home Theater System
Our #3 Pick is the JBL Bar 5.1 Home Theater System
Award: BEST WIRELESS
WHY WE LIKE IT: If you’re looking for the best wireless home theater system, you can’t pass up this JBL home theater system. This is a 4K-compatible system with superb audio quality and powerful bass that’s easy to use and set up.

- Unique detachable wireless speakers for full surround
- Amazing 7.2.4 surround sound
- 4K compatible
- Lacking in EQ controls
- Plastic build feels somewhat cheap
The JBL Bar 5.1 home theater system is incredibly appealing for anyone looking for powerful sound without taking up a lot of space or spending endless hours on installation. This truly wireless surround sound system features a single soundbar, 2 wireless satellite speakers, and a wireless subwoofer. One of the most unique aspects of this system is the fact that the satellite speakers magnetically attach directly to the soundbar and can be removed to create a surround sound experience when you want it. This essentially eliminates complicated installation processes. However, the satellite speakers can be wall-mounted with the included mounting hardware if you want it.
You can connect devices to the JBL Bar 5.1 via Bluetooth or with one of three HDMI inputs, meaning you can easily connect all of your 4K devices and gaming consoles. The JBL system is also incredibly easy to use. Most TV remotes are compatible with the system, but you can also use the JBL SoundShift functionality to switch between TV sound or tablet/phone sound for a truly seamless second-screen experience. We wish the bar had more EQ controls, but overall, the sound quality is powerful and balanced out of the box. It’s also got strong bass that fills the room. In the end, if you want stellar audio quality without the complicated setup, you can’t go wrong with the JBL Bar 5.1. If you don’t mind all the setup, take a look at the best center channel speaker.

The MagniFi Mini home theater system is a testament to that fact. It may not look like it, but this compact audio system can fill your living room with powerful cinema sound. The compact design is perfect for anyone looking to save some space while still getting an amazing audio experience. Trebles could be better, but still impressive, especially when combined with solid bass and midrange frequencies.

After that, you can connect your TV with a single HDMI input or other wireless devices via Bluetooth. Unfortunately, you’re a bit limited with the single HDMI port, but if you’re looking for something compact, you might not need more than that. If you’re looking for powerful, cinema-quality audio in an affordable and compact package, the Polk Audio MagniFi Mini offers the best high-end home theater speakers. And of note, this system boasts Google Cast, which works over WiFi to receive songs from your smartphone or smart device. #6 Onkyo HT-S5800 Home Theater System
Our #6 Pick is the Onkyo HT-S5800 Home Theater System
Award: BEST QUALITY
WHY WE LIKE IT: The Onkyo surround sound system is a traditional home theater system that gives you powerful Dolby Atmos audio and 4K compatibility. It’s also easy to get up and running, even for beginners.
Read Full Review: Onkyo HT-S5800 Review
- Extraordinary 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos audio
- Fairly easy installation
- Digital display on receiver
- Music audio could be better
- Receiver sometimes runs hot
The Onkyo HT-S5800 is a 5.1.2 channel surround sound home theater system that delivers a powerful and immersive Dolby Atmos audio experience. It delivers 115 watts per channel with wide-range amplifier technology (WRAT) for a much better audio experience overall. You even get 4K compatibilities, which gives this audio system a longer lifespan and better compatibility with cutting-edge televisions. You can even stream audio from your mobile devices via built-in Bluetooth. One of our favorite features that the HT-S5800 offers is its impressive AccuEQ technology, which automatically calibrates EQ settings for the optimal audio experience.
Despite being a traditional wired home theater system, the Onkyo HT-S5800 is actually fairly easy to install. The included instructions are clear and comprehensive, and they even include easy-to-interpret diagrams that help you connect things properly. Once up and running, the system is simple to use because of its receiver’s digital display and simple remote. The receiver can run hot at times, but this is only after extended periods of use, so it shouldn’t become too much of an issue. The overall quality of the system is something worth noting, as well. Everything is built with durability in mind. With the proper care, this system will last you a long time.
#7 Bestisan 80W Sound Bar Home Theater System
Our #7 Pick is the Bestisan 80W Sound Bar Home Theater System
Award: BEST ON A BUDGET
WHY WE LIKE IT: The Bestisan audio system is a room-filling soundbar that is easy to use and extra affordable. Featuring multiple sound modes and simple installation, you can’t go wrong with this option if you’re on a budget.
Read Full Review: Bestisan 80W Sound Bar Review
- Solid 3D stereo sound
- Excellent Bluetooth 5.0 functionality
- Three different audio modes
- Sound bar only
- No HDMI input
While the Bestisan 80W sound bar home theater system is only a soundbar without any extra subwoofers or satellite speakers, it still features powerful audio to fill your living room with rich sound. The sound bar is made from two 2” tweeters and two 3” drivers to achieve a 3D stereo audio experience. Our favorite feature on this sound bar is the option to switch between three different audio modes: Movie, Music, and Dialog. Each mode has its own, self-explanatory purpose and our research revealed that each was suited for the task. The remote also gives you the option to increase or decrease bass and treble levels for a more customized experience.
Installation is as simple as plugging in the sound bar and getting it connected to your TV. Unfortunately, you don’t get any HDMI ports, but you still get optical, auxiliary, USB, and RCA inputs. You also get an excellent Bluetooth 5.0 connection to connect to phones, tablets, and Bluetooth-compatible TVs. All in all, if you’re looking for the best budget home theater system, you can’t go wrong with the Bestisan 80W sound bar.
How We Decided
Our primary concern in choosing the best home theater systems was the quality of the audio experience each option provides. The purpose of a full home theater system is to create a cinema-like experience with either true or simulated surround sound. As such, we rated only included the best-sounding systems on our list. We gave bonus points to systems that are compatible with cutting-edge audio technology like Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, but still focused mostly on the quality of the out-of-the-box audio experience.
Next, we focused our research efforts on installation. While you can certainly hire home theater professionals to come to install your new system, we rated options higher if they were easy enough to install on your own. For starters, the best home theater systems will include clear and comprehensive installation and operation instructions. However, we did favor wireless systems more in this category, since they are the easiest to install.
Finally, we considered the overall design and durability of each home theater system we included on our list. If you’re spending a large chunk of money on a comprehensive audio experience, you should feel comfortable knowing that the system will last you a long time. We favored options that included wall-mounting hardware so you could install systems on the wall out of the reach of children.
Best Home Theater System Buyer’s Guide
The Most Important Features to Consider
- Pre-packaged vs. Custom Designed
The first consideration when purchasing a new home theater system is purchasing a pre-packaged or custom system. Pre-packaged systems come with everything you need to get started and are often made really easy to install yourself. They also tend to be more affordable than other options. However, you can most times add a set of the best wireless speakers for a home theater system. On the flip side, you are also limited to the options the manufacturer provides instead of being able to tweak and customize your system. Custom-designed home theater systems are much more expensive than pre-packaged solutions, but they can also be customized to your individual preferences. They’re also usually installed by home theater professionals, so you won’t have to worry about messing up during installation due to lack of knowledge. Since it’s next to impossible to test custom home theater systems, our list only features pre-packaged options.
- Surround Sound vs. Sound Bar
Next, you’ll need to consider purchasing a surround sound system or a sound bar setup. Surround sound features many more speakers, typically including a subwoofer, front left and front right speakers, rear speakers and a center channel speaker. As you might imagine, surround sound creates a much more immersive audio experience for your home theater, but it usually comes with a much bigger price tag. Sound bars are more affordable options than surround speakers but don’t offer the same level of immersion. Sound bars combine the separate speakers of a surround system into one unit, with or without a subwoofer, depending on the model you purchase. However, this doesn’t necessarily mean that sound bars are inferior. They simply offer a different kind of audio experience. If you don’t want to shell out the cash for a full surround sound system, sound bars are excellent alternatives that still offer a high-quality audio experience.
- Number of Channels
If you decide to go with a surround sound home theater system, you’ll need to determine how many speakers, or channels, you want. In general, the more speakers you install, the better audio experience you’ll have. Channels are numbered in ways like 5.1, 7.1, etc. The first number indicates the number of total speakers in the setup. The second number indicates the number of subwoofers. And the third number, if applicable, indicates the number of Dolby Atmos speakers are in the setup for special effects.
Any multi-channel home theater system features an audio-video receiver that both powers and orchestrates the entire setup. The AV receiver receives and processes the audio signal coming from your TV or Blu-ray player and doles it out to your home theater speakers. If it’s needed, an AV receiver will come with your purchase. While it may seem daunting at first, you can check out our page on how to connect a tv to a receiver to help, if needed.
- Wired vs. Wireless
Wireless speaker packages are becoming more and more popular in today’s world of ever-advancing technology. Without the need for wires, a wireless home theater system is much more versatile and easier to install than their wired counterparts. Wireless systems can also stream audio from any device connected to your network and you can control the system from your smartphone. However, wired systems are usually more reliable and provide higher audio quality than wireless alternatives.
- Ease of Use
Installing a home theater system can be difficult, especially if you don’t have any previous experience doing it. However, using a home theater system shouldn’t be difficult. Fully capable systems are also multi-functional and allow you to switch between different modes and audio sources. Consider all of these systems’ functions and how easy they are to operate. The best options include comprehensive instructions that teach you all of the functionality and a remote that is clearly labeled and simple in its design. You can also get one of the best universal remotes that’s compatible with the system so you can seamlessly control your setup on one device.

How We Decided
The six items on our list are the best aux cables in the market today. Aux cabling is a technology that involves simple mechanics so choosing one is fairly straightforward. Still, you’d want to consider some features to ensure that you get only the best aux cables.
For our list, we primarily considered the materials used. Connectors are all gold-plated with copper or silver wire cores. These ensure superconductivity and corrosion resistance. We also made sure that the cables are durable by choosing those with hi-tensile fiber cords, nylon braided cords, or flexible PVC that have bend lifespans of 10,000 or higher.
Aside from the quality of materials, we also selected only those with universal compatibility. The six aux cables all work with multiple media-playing devices. Lastly, we considered brand reputation and their commitment to providing excellent customer support.
Best Modern Buyer’s Guide
The Most Important Cable Features to Consider
- Quality of Materials
Connectivity and then with that sound quality is highly dependent on the quality of the materials. For the clearest audio, look for 100% oxygen-free copper wires and 24K gold-plated jacks. Pure aluminum and copper-clad aluminum wires may be cheaper, but OFC and regular copper wires are undoubtedly better in quality. Both silver and copper jacks offer superior conductivity but are also prone to corrosion. This is why we recommend 24K gold-plated connectors.
Before you purchase an auxiliary cable, you must check its compatibility with your devices. Most devices use standard 3.5mm aux connectors, but there are some that don’t. To avoid compatibility issues, always check the specifications of the aux cable and the devices you’ll be using it with. For instance, an aux cable with mic can’t be used with some speaker models.
For durability, consider the bend life, which indicates the number of times the aux cable can be inserted and taken out of devices before its quality deteriorates. A bend life of 10,000+ is already higher than most standard audio cables, but 15,000+ is naturally a better choice.
Best Home Cinema – Ranking (2023)
Here is the TOP of home theaters . Do you want to improve the experience of watching your favorite series or the new blockbuster? Feel the effect of immersion in games? Then it’s time to choose the best home theater for yourself.
Home theater is a set of speakers with a player or receiver. Columns can be 5, 6, 7 or more depending on the system.
If you want to buy a home theater inexpensively, you can look at options without a player / receiver. And if you need maximum freedom and comfort – you need a wireless home theater. In any case, our rating of home theaters will help you with your choice.

📺 Choosing a home theater – which one is better to buy?
To choose a home theater, you need to figure out why you need it. Well, a little dive into the characteristics. Little bit. 😉
- Do you need a player/receiver? Most modern TVs have smart functions, can play various files from external media, and support many modern decoders. That is, a separate player is not particularly needed. In this case, you can look at not the latest models. Their players do not support modern formats and so on. But, if you take only speakers from the system, it will be cheaper than more modern home theaters with a similar sound. And let the player stand in the corner. 😉
- Determine the required functionality . If you need a playback function from discs, then you can’t do without a player. Then you need to support most formats. Is it for movies or for music too? More on this below.
- Interfaces . Switching between elements of the system is usually not a problem. It is important to understand how the home theater will connect to the TV. The greatest functionality and format support is provided by HDMI in its latest variation HDMI eARC. A wireless home theater (where the satellites are connected via Wi-Fi) is a great idea, but they cost more.
- Additional functionality . Work in the music center mode – streaming online music and so on. Is it necessary? Such models are more expensive.
- Home theater features . You should not rely on the total power of home theaters from manufacturers of household appliances declared in the characteristics. These “Chinese watts” have little to do with reality. There are either peak measurements, or just some kind of own calculation system. But 1000 watts in a home theater cannot be. 😈
- Format . 5.1, 7.1, 7.2 and so on. Home cinema 5.1 is already a good surround sound. But if you want the full Dolby Atmos effect, then this is a 7.1.2 system with in-ceiling speakers. About home theaters with a soundbar – separately below.
- Price . From $100 to $3000+. In every price segment you can find worthy models.
- Listening . It is best to listen to the model of interest before buying. Even if you order online, it’s worth going to a physical store and listening, and not buying “out of the box”. Of course, everything will sound different in your room, but you can get an impression of the overall quality.

5 LG LHB655
Wireless Home Theater – relatively affordable
LG LHB655 is a wireless home cinema, relatively budget and high quality. Powerful, voluminous high-quality sound for films is available here. All speakers are quite compact, stand securely. The design is universal, without frills, but not unpleasant.
This budget 5.1 home theater pairs best with LG TVs. But with models from other manufacturers, most often there are no compatibility problems.
4 Sony BDV-E6100
Modern home cinema – 5.1 acoustics
Sony BDV-E6100 is a modern home cinema with 5.1 acoustics. The player is also present, the functionality is quite large. Design for its segment is good. The player looks especially interesting. But it will not fit into every interior.
This is a powerful home cinema. The sound is bass oriented, only suitable for watching movies and games. Bass is powerful, sometimes redundant.
3 Mystery MSB-111 🥉
Inexpensive home theater – with HDMI connection
Mystery MSB-111 is an inexpensive home theater system with an HDMI connection. This cheap home theater is just a soundbar with a subwoofer. The model offers a good sound for a budget solution and outdated functionality, it makes no sense to use it as a player.
The Mystery brand is well known to lovers of budget technology. You don’t expect much functionality from their devices. The main thing is that they work. 😛 When you buy a home theater inexpensively, you always make compromises.
2 Samsung HT-J5530K 🥈
Best home theater 5.1
Samsung HT-J5530K is the best 5.1 home theater for the money. A good model from one of the leaders in the production of multimedia devices. It differs in that it sounds better than many even more expensive counterparts. A good home theater, although far from new.
The sound, of course, is designed specifically for watching movies and playing games. Powerful bass dominates, but overall the sound is quite balanced. You can listen to music, but this is not a priority for this system.
1 Onkyo HT-S7805 🏆
Best home cinema in 2023
Onkyo HT-S7805 is the best home theater in 2023 with Dolby Atmos support. Ultimate sound for big money. The system gives a chic sense of space (especially if the content natively supports Dolby Atmos) for watching movies. But it is also suitable for music: the sound is natural (without a powerful bass boost) and very detailed.
Onkyo specializes in audio technology, so this home theater (2023) is built on a receiver, not a player. But you can connect to it almost anything.
0 Sonos Home Cinema
Wireless home theater with soundbar
Sonos makes a great wireless home theater system. All items can be purchased separately or as a set. Home theater from Sonos is built on a soundbar. It connects to a TV or receiver via HDMI. Then a pair of rear speakers and a subwoofer are connected to it via Wi-Fi.
In addition to making great soundtracks for watching movies, the Sonos home theater system is great for listening to music. The sound is high quality and reliable. All settings are made in the proprietary application. And it takes a few minutes. Streaming services, online radio and more are supported.
Soundbar takes up little space – less than the front and center speakers. The rears are also compact, and the subwoofer can even be leaned against the wall, even removed under the bed – it will work in any case. The wireless connection gives you the freedom to arrange items around the room. The main thing is that there are enough power outlets. 😉
❓ Which is better – soundbar or home theater?
Two main parameters to consider: dimensions and price. How many speaker spaces are there? Should I try to save money and space?
- Soundbar . Compromise solution. Several speakers are mounted in one oblong column. Physical sound sources are obtained close to each other. Takes up little space, can be mounted on the wall under the TV. Or put on the same bedside table as the TV. The goal of budget soundbars is to simply sound better than TV speakers. More advanced and expensive models offer high-quality and powerful sound. Even with surround effects like Dolby Atmos. Surround sound is achieved by engineering solutions and virtual effects. It usually costs less than a home theater. But the sound is less voluminous and not as high quality in principle. The lower bass cannot be due to physical limitations.
- Home theater . Several columns take up quite a lot of space. You need to switch between them. For optimal sound quality, you need to carefully place the satellites around the room. Provide maximum immersion effect, as the sound sources are separated in space. The system usually costs more than a soundbar. But it also sounds better. May be the lowest bass if the system has a subwoofer. You can turn off the surround speakers to listen to music.
🔊 Home theater speakers – what do you need?
When choosing speakers for a home theater, you should first of all start from the usage scenario. Will they be needed only for movies (and games, for example) or for music too?
- Movies only . Do not bother with Hi-Fi and Hi-End acoustics. Ready-made systems are the best option. No need to chase wooden cases, for example. From them, a tangible rise in price, but an imperceptible increase in sound quality for films. If you buy speakers separately, you can watch music in the mid-price segment. Floor – to the front and shelf speakers as rear ones. It is important to consider switching: so that all speakers can be connected to one receiver without problems.
- For movies and music . It makes sense to watch ready-made systems from audio equipment manufacturers, not TVs. They are more expensive, but give a more musical sound. Or collect separately from Hi-Fi speakers. The receiver is also worth choosing a high-quality music. It is also possible to assemble a home theater from proven Soviet speakers, if everything is correctly positioned and configured. 😉

They come to the aid of a wireless subwoofer, which definitely benefits the bass – it is quite solid and tangible here. The frequency range of the compact audio system extends from 40 Hz to 20 kHz, and its total power reaches 120 watts. In addition to HDMI ARC, as well as coaxial and optical input, there is a built-in Bluetooth module for listening to audio from mobile gadgets.
