Is a $1000 gaming PC worth it?

A $1000 budget allows you to get a CyberPower gaming PC with solid performance. For gaming PCs at this budget you can expect to get a powerful processor, a solid graphics card, and enough RAM to run your favorite games smoothly. For the most part you’ll get the best performance at this price point running games at 1080p resolution and high graphics settings. They also often have specialized cooling systems and higher-quality audio and visual components to provide a more immersive gaming experience. On the other hand, regular PCs are typically designed for primary everyday use. They may not have the same performance or components as a gaming PC.

Which PC is best for gaming?

CyberPowerPC is one of the top names in the gaming PC space and has been equipping gamers with the best gaming PCs since 1998. Our selection of prebuilt and custom gaming desktops and laptops is the best you will find. We have a gaming PC for every budget – from entry level computers to top of the line gaming PCs with the best possible components available.

What is a normal price for a good gaming PC?

A normal price for a good gaming PC is going to be in the $900-1500 range for a computer that can play modern games at 1080p or 1440p. For those looking for faster frame rates or higher resolution gameplay, systems at $2000+ will be the better option, as these feature more powerful hardware.

Is $5000 good for a gaming pc?

A $5000 gaming PC from CyberPowerPC will be an absolute beast. A $5000 machine will handle any game you throw at it with ease, often with max graphics settings, high resolutions like 1440p or 4K, and high frame rates. High end machines will often feature things not found in lower end machines, such as complete liquid cooling, RGB RAM, extremely fast SSDs, custom RGB lighting, and more.

Differences between work and gaming computer

04/28/2018

When it comes to buying a desktop computer, the legitimate question is whether to choose a “work computer” or a “gaming computer”. For a person who is not particularly versed in technology, such a choice can confuse for a long time – but what, in fact, is their difference? Let’s figure it out.

Their very main purpose comes from the name – “playing” or “working”. The first one is capable of playing modern games with different graphics quality settings and is aimed at texture processing. The second is aimed at solving certain problems, often tailored for a specific type of work, photoshop, video editing, 3D modeling, design, or all together. Resources allow you to use a gaming computer for work, and a work computer for games, but in this case, the performance will be much lower.

A gaming computer is, first of all, a modern video card, a powerful processor, and a sufficient amount of RAM. The newer and “heavier” the games, the higher the monitor resolution, the higher the quality of the graphics settings in the games, the more powerful and modern hardware is needed. It should also be noted that there are reasonable limits. For example, the use of more than 6 cores in the processor is not required at this time, 16GB of RAM is enough. Anything above is overkill.

A working computer can be presented in various variations. For example, for ordinary office work, a device of average performance is enough (working with text, the Internet), but for highly specific work – like video editing, architectural tasks – machines are used that are much more productive than gaming systems. For example, to add high-quality special effects to a film, or to work with images of huge sizes (or work with several layers), a huge production capacity is needed. Often, such computers are not used for games or entertainment – they are sharpened for their tasks. Depending on the application and the “heaviness” of the project, more cores are required (preferably from 6 cores), more RAM (from 16GB) and a professional video card capable of rendering a huge number of triangles and polygons.

Remember, if you take the time to search, you can always find a good price-performance option, as the prices for such computers are often high.

As is clear from the above, before buying such equipment, you should decide what it is for. The differences between a working and a gaming computer are too specific, and in the future it will be costly to change the filling of the system unit. This is not so much a question of price, but rather of the appointment of components. In any case, with us you will receive comprehensive advice on any issues – we will help you make the right choice!

Which is better for gaming, computer or laptop?

When computers first appeared and occupied entire rooms, and hard drives were like washing machines, who would have thought that after about half a century, thousands of times more powerful machines would fit in our pocket?

Indeed, every year computers become more powerful and lighter. However, this article is about gaming laptops, and the allusion to smartphones above was just to show the level of technology development.

Short answer

A desktop computer is much more profitable and provides more headroom for the future. A gaming laptop is only worth buying if you really need portability. But even in this case, in most situations, a combination of an external video card with a laptop of the appropriate power is preferable.

More specifically, we will compare gaming laptops with desktop machines in several ways and see what their advantages and disadvantages are.

Video card power

When considering gaming systems, the characteristics of the video card are almost always of interest to us in the first place. And if installing an Intel Core i9 or Ryzen 7 laptop is not so difficult, graphics cards are a completely different story.

The problem is that powerful video cards are large. This is not so important in the case of desktops, but the main advantage of laptops is that they are portable and relatively light. Therefore, when installing a large video card in a small and thin plastic case, the following factors play a significant role:

  • Dimensions and weight – notebooks use special mobile versions of video cards designed to fit into tight spaces and minimize the overall weight of the notebook. However, another serious problem arises…
  • Temperature – video chips get very hot. All those huge heatsinks and three-fan cooling systems are not just for beauty. Therefore, it is necessary not only to fit the video card into the laptop, but also to adapt all the cooling of the laptop to remove additional heat associated with the presence of a discrete video card.
  • Performance – considering the two previous factors, it is impossible to reduce the size and heat dissipation without sacrificing anything. Mobile versions of video cards are always weaker than their stationary counterparts at a higher price. In the video below, you can see a visual comparison of the performance of desktop and mobile chips of the same video card family.

That being said, in terms of pure performance, there can be no competition between desktops and laptops. Moreover, almost twice the cost of gaming laptops compared to desktop computers with similar characteristics also does not add optimism.

But not everything is so hopeless! External graphics cards are a great way to turn a regular laptop into a gaming laptop if it has a powerful enough processor and you don’t mind the extra load and are willing to shell out for such a device.

Other specs

So it’s obvious that when it comes to graphics cards, desktops are clearly in the lead, but what about other components?

  • Processor – Like video cards, Intel and AMD have mobile versions of processors with reduced heat and power consumption. But they are also always weaker than versions for desktop computers.
  • RAM – Notebooks usually have less memory out of the box, and some of them allow you to install additional modules, although this is rarely necessary. Desktops use DIMM format RAM, while laptops use SO-DIMM RAM, but there is no difference in terms of performance between them, and the differences are only in size and pin arrangement. That is, a RAM stick from a laptop is not suitable for installation in a stationary PC.
  • Drives – obviously there is no free space in the laptop case, so it is impossible to install an additional HDD or SSD (although sometimes models are equipped with an additional slot for a SATA or M.2 drive), but you can always replace an existing HDD / SSD or use an external drive.

As you can see, in terms of the above parameters, gaming laptops do not particularly sacrifice anything. However, they have significantly less upgrade options than desktop computers.

Peripherals

Speaking of peripherals, it’s worth noting that although laptops naturally already have built-in displays, keyboards, and touchpads, this can be both an advantage and a disadvantage.

You don’t really have to buy all of these extras, but what if you don’t like what you have? Whether you want a 144Hz gaming monitor or a cool mechanical keyboard, a laptop screen and keyboard will be dead weight you’ll pay money for anyway.

On the other hand, some flagship gaming laptops have very high quality 144Hz displays and pretty good keyboards. In this case, the cost of peripherals of a comparable level reduces the price gap between laptops and desktops to not such significant values.

  • Screen – Most FullHD gaming laptops have 60Hz refresh rates and 15″ to 17″ displays, but there has been a recent trend to improve these settings: models with 1440p and 4K displays are not uncommon, as well as refresh rates 144 Hz and even 360 Hz. The screen size is understandable if you need a laptop to fit in your bag, but if you need a higher resolution and/or refresh rate, you’ll need a monitor.
  • Keyboard – Notebooks use low profile membrane keys. Mechanical keyboards and built-in backlighting are quite rare, only in the most expensive models.
  • Touchpad/Mouse – Anyone who has used a touchpad at least once in their life will definitely agree that it is inconvenient for games, whether it’s dynamic shooters or strategy games where you need to click and move the mouse a lot. You’ll almost certainly need a separate mouse unless you’re only going to play with a controller (which also needs to be purchased separately).
  • Speakers and Microphone – usually the built-in speakers and microphones of laptops are quite good, although it depends on the model. However, if you need a gaming laptop, don’t worry – such devices often use high-quality acoustics.

Flexibility

Finally, consider the issue of flexibility. It has two components, one of which is dominated by desktop PCs, and the other by laptops. Here they are.

Customization

Perhaps the biggest advantage of a desktop gaming PC is customization. Anyone with minimal IT knowledge can open the system unit and freely configure, customize and replace any components at their discretion. Moreover, the simplest tools are enough for this – usually even one screwdriver.

PC components can be moved to a new case to improve cooling, or case fans can be replaced for better lighting or better airflow. You can install water cooling or mod your case – it’s all up to you!

Notebooks, on the other hand, require a much more subtle approach. Of course, they can also be disassembled and replaced parts, but this requires special tools, and the components themselves are not so easy to buy. Often you have to put up with loud noise from a laptop, high temperature components or unassuming appearance. And if you want something unusual, you will have to look for models with an original design, while they can lose in terms of characteristics to less beautiful laptops.

Portability

Everything is clear here. Both an ultra-thin office laptop and a two-kilogram gaming laptop are still much more portable than a gaming PC. After all, even many empty chassis cases can be heavier than a laptop.

The complete gaming PC isn’t just bigger and heavier. It has a lot of peripherals with cables – monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. Obviously, its transportation is much more difficult.
