Amazon is a very popular brand when it comes to budget tablets. They always try to keep their products under $100 mark. They are doing a great job by creating these cheap devices and keeping them efficient. They have strong battery life, decent display, and decent performance.

Amazon Fire HD 8 is a bestseller.

It’s a great device for families. All the tablets come with the Amazon Kids app, which is free for Fire tablets. You set up restrictions for 1/2-hour per day, manage the content your children see, etc. Kids enjoy playing with them, and they can be very educational. If it’s dropped – it’s not the end of the world, they are quite cheap, and you can always get a case for an extra layer of protection.

7-inch tablets aren’t that popular. There aren’t that many available. My guess is because the market isn’t that big for these, smartphones are quite close to this size.

I personally like the 7-inch size tablet. You can fit them in one hand and use them similarly to a smartphone.

Let’s get to the Lenovo Tab M7 Gen 3 – the design is great, and it feels very premium. Lenovo knows how to create premium-looking tablets, but when it comes to specs and the overall quality compared to some of the premium tablets…well…it could use some improvements, but considering the price, it offers adequate performance. Actually, considering the price, it’s a very good option. The screen is good, the speakers could be better(it only has one), and the build quality is more than solid. If you are looking for a 7-inch tablet under $100, it’s a very good option.

Overall, I think it’s great for kids, for people that like to travel and need a device where they can stay connected, and good for readers. The screen is decent, and the battery life is good.

Every few years, Amazon updates its budget tablets with a new processor and some other features, and in 2022, they did it again. This is already 12th gen Amazon Fire 7.

Here’s what you need to know. Compared to its predecessor, it has a bit better processor, improved battery life, weighs a little less, and the price has increased by $10. Also, it now has USB-C. The SD card expansion now is compatible with 1TB SD cards(before 512GB)

It’s an entry-level tablet that allows you to perform basic tasks on your tablet, you can play some lightweight games on it, and you’re still locked in with the Amazon ecosystem. It’s a basic tablet for basic use and basic tasks, you can’t expect much from it, but it’s good if you intend to read e-books on it, watch movies, tv-shows, store photos, watch YouTube, TikTok, and other social media apps, browse and consume media, music, etc. It will also hold up to 10 hours of battery.

You can get Whatsapp on it, Zoom, Skype, etc. The camera isn’t the greatest, but considering the price, it’s good enough for video calls.

With its metal construction and punchy, colorful screen, at first blush the Lenovo Tab M8 (HD) might not feel like a tablet you can buy for less than $100 – but indeed it is so. At launch it was priced around the $130 mark, but these days at outlets like Amazon and Best Buy it’s common to see it for a two-figure price in the $90s or even in the high $80s if you’re lucky.

With options of 2GB or 3GB of RAM, running Android 9 (Pie), the Lenovo Tab M8 isn’t about to win any awards for processing speed. You certainly wouldn’t try to edit 4K video or have a high-intensity gaming session on this thing, but for browsing, Netflix bingeing and playing simple tablet games, it’ll be great. And frankly, if that’s all you want from a tablet, there’s no reason you should be paying much more than this.

One of the reasons that the Lenovo M8 is our top pick is that in a fair few categories it punches well above what you’d expect for this kind of price. One thing worth singling out is the battery life, which really is excellent – some reviewers have managed to get as much as 23 hours of juice out of this thing. Not only does this make charging much faster, it also makes the port itself quite a bit more resilient, as anyone who has kept a microUSB device for a long time can probably attest. Once again, the Amazon Fire 7 requires the use of Amazon’s app ecosystem rather than the Google Play Store, which may or may not bother you. The tablet feels a lot in use like it’s made of cheap plastic, and that’s because it is, but hey – that’s how you get a price of $65 and a weight of eight ounces.

The key advantage of buying a tablet under $100 is, of course, the low price. With flagship tablets such as iPad Air models getting pricier and pricier with every go-around, the tablet market can feel simply unreachable to some, and it’s important to remember that there is generally always accessible tech for those with less cash to spend – you just have to find it.

Cheap tablets have advantages of their own, too. They tend to be smaller and much more portable, with screens that are seven or eight inches in size being common. Carrying a big heavy tablet everywhere with you can be quite difficult, and if you just want something to use to watch movies on a flight or have with you to browse online without punishing your phone battery, a cheap tablet can be an excellent choice.

Cheap tablets can also be great to give to kids, and as we’ve seen, there are dedicated kid-friendly options out there, including Pebble Gear’s tablets and Amazon’s dedicated Kids’ models in its Fire range. Also, with IPS, the image fades and loses clarity when you look at the screen at a large angle.

    OLED and AMOLED screens are made up of millions of individual pixels that work independently. They display perfectly deep blacks, as the screen simply does not light up in dark areas. These screens are great for video, gaming and reading comics due to their high contrast and rich colors. In tablets, OLED matrices are found only in flagships like the iPad Pro 12.3 and Samsung Galaxy Tab S8+.

    However, OLED has a downside: the brightness is controlled by flicker, or PWM. The display turns on and off hundreds of times a second, and the longer the intervals, the darker the image appears. At low brightness, the flicker frequency drops to tens of times per second. If the eyes are sensitive enough, discomfort and a feeling of fatigue appear after a few minutes. Different OLED screens show this effect with different strengths, but if you plan to read from a tablet in the dark, it is better to choose models with IPS screens.

    Experiment: how I worked on a tablet for two months

    The smoothness of displaying animations and scrolling text depends on the screen refresh rate. Most tablet screens run at 60Hz, but higher-end models have faster displays at 90Hz, 120Hz, or even 144Hz.
