              Thanks to innovations in design and build materials, vacuum cleaners have become lighter over time. A lightweight machine can help reduce the strain on your body as you clean, and it can be easier to take with you up and down a flight of stairs. It should have both a low total weight as well as a manageable weight in your hand. However, to improve their portability while lowering their weight, many of these vacuums tend to be very plasticky, and their build quality can suffer.

              We’ve tested over 130 vacuum cleaners, and below are our recommendations for the best vacuum cleaners with a lightweight design to buy. These picks were selected based on their weight and performance on different types of surfaces, feature set, battery life, and price. If you’re looking for more vacuums, check out our recommendations for the best cordless vacuums, the best cordless stick vacuums, and the best cordless vacuums for pet hair.

                The best lightweight vacuum we’ve tested is the Dyson V12 Detect Slim. It’s one of the lightest models Dyson offers at just over five pounds, but it doesn’t cut corners regarding features. It can automatically increase its suction power on carpet or whenever it passes over an area with a large concentration of debris. It has a built-in particle sensor to inform you of allergen quantities inside your home. In addition to its primary multi-surface floorhead, it also comes with a floorhead with a soft roller and a laser light to help identify fine debris and pet hair on hard floors. It can run for up to an hour on a charge, which is pretty lengthy by the standards of this type of vacuum.

                Performance on bare floors is exceptional, and it does a very good job of handling debris on low and high-pile carpet. Unsurprisingly, given the vacuum’s small size, its dirt compartment is tiny and needs emptying often. If that’s a problem, the pricier Dyson V15 Detect is worth a look, as it has a larger dustbin and a more powerful suction motor. However, at almost 6.5 pounds, it’s noticeably heavier than the smaller V12. The Samsung Jet 90 Complete is another good alternative to the V12 with a bigger dustbin and only a slightly heavier body, but it lacks the Dyson’s automatic power adjustment system.

                If you want to spend a little less and don’t mind missing out on the Dyson V12 Detect Slim’s built-in particle counter, check out the Samsung Jet 75. At a little over 5.5 pounds, it weighs slightly more than the much pricier Dyson. However, it features a more powerful 200AW suction motor, resulting in even better debris pickup on carpeted surfaces, cracks, and crevices. It also has a larger dirt compartment that won’t need emptying as often. It can run for up to an hour on a single charge, which is good for a cordless vacuum and sufficient for cleaning most rooms. Going for the ‘+’ model nets you a second battery, making it a better fit for longer cleaning sessions if you keep both packs topped up.

                Unfortunately, unlike the Dyson, there’s no automatic power adjustment capability, so you’ll need to manually bump up its power setting when cleaning carpeted surfaces. If that’s a must-have feature, the Tineco PURE ONE S11 is a solid alternative, though it feels flimsier, has a weaker suction motor, and doesn’t last as long on a charge.

                The Samsung Jet 60 is the best mid-range lightweight vacuum we’ve tested. Compared to the outwardly similar Samsung Jet 75, this cordless stick vacuum has a less potent 150AW suction motor and uses a smaller-capacity battery pack that yields a max runtime of about 40 minutes. However, it’s otherwise pretty similar in design, with an even lighter weight of slightly over five pounds, making it remarkably easy to pick up and carry from room to room. Despite this lightweight construction, it still feels reasonably sturdy and has a relatively high-capacity dustbin that won’t need emptying too often.

                This vacuum’s five-stage filtration system, another feature it shares with the Jet 75, is also very effective in sealing in allergens. Unfortunately, while the Jet Fit floorhead that comes bundled with the Jet 60 allows for great overall performance on low and high-pile carpet, it isn’t as effective when dealing with larger debris on hard surfaces as the Jet 75’s Turbo Brush floorhead.

                If you want to spend as little as possible on a cordless, lightweight vacuum, check out the Xiaomi Mi Vacuum Cleaner Light. At a little over four pounds, this cordless stick weighs even less than other lightweight cordless stick vacuums like the Samsung Jet 60. However, the flip side of this highly compact, lightweight design is a small, weak suction motor that struggles with lifting debris from carpets and crevices and a tiny dirt compartment that’ll need frequent emptying. Still, this vacuum is highly maneuverable, and despite its affordable price point, it feels decently well-built. Its max battery life of about 50 minutes is fairly impressive.

                If you’re looking for a budget-friendly stick vacuum that does a little better on carpets and you don’t mind using something a little heavier, the JASHEN V16 is a solid option. It has a bigger dustbin than the Xiaomi and exerts a greater suction force, though it does feel more cheaply built.

                If you prefer the added debris capacity of an upright vacuum, the Hoover ONEPWR Evolve Pet is a good option. While it’s a little heavier than a conventional stick vacuum like the Samsung Jet 60, it still weighs much less than most conventionally-designed corded uprights. Its cordless design also ensures you don’t have to stay close to an electrical outlet while vacuuming far-away areas. It comes bundled with a 4.0 Ah battery pack that yields up to 40 minutes of runtime on a single charge. Still, since it’s part of Hooover’s ONEPWR series of interchangeable-pack appliances, you can easily pop in another pack for longer cleaning sessions. While its battery life does drop to a little over 20 minutes in its most powerful mode, that’s still longer than most cordless stick vacuums.

                This vacuum performs impressively well on bare floors, though you’ll need to turn off its brushroll to prevent it from sending debris scattering around. While you might need to make an extra go-around to clear away fine material, it also does a good job dealing with debris on low and high-pile carpet. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a HEPA filter or an allergen-sealed body, resulting in terrible air filtration performance.

                The Eureka Mighty Mite is a good choice if you’re looking for a lightweight corded canister vacuum. While it doesn’t have the grab-and-go convenience of a cordless vacuum like the Xiaomi Mi Vacuum Cleaner Light, it’s a better fit for longer cleaning sessions since you won’t need to worry about running out of charge part way through a cleaning session. It’s also considerably lighter and smaller than most other canister vacuums, meaning you can pull it around, pick it up, and carry it with minimal effort. Its overall design isn’t too complicated either, so you can swap out its filters or put in a new dirtbag once it’s been filled. Its power cord is short, so you’ll probably need to swap outlets when cleaning larger areas.

                This vacuum does a fantastic job of cleaning even surfaces and is effective on low and high-pile carpet. While its floorhead doesn’t have a motorized or air-driven brushroll for improved surface agitation, it does have bristles that you can retract to help generate a tighter seal on rugs and carpets. If you prefer using a bagless option and don’t mind the less hygienic debris disposal endemic to that kind of vacuum, the Eureka Whirlwind Bagless Canister is a similarly-performing alternative that’s very portable.

              Best Lightweight Vacuums 2023 – Forbes Vetted

              Regular-sized vacuum cleaners can be difficult to push or lug around if you have dexterity issues or arthritis, which is where lightweight vacuums come in. The best lightweight vacuums still pack a powerful punch while being relatively easy to use. Our top choice is the Eureka Airspeed Ultra-Lightweight for its under-8 pound weight, high portability and impressive suction power.

              At a basic level, “a lightweight vacuum is easier to maneuver and carry around,” says Donna Dougherty, founder and CEO of Go Green Cleaning Experts, a cleaning service that caters to the Greater Philadelphia area. But they can also be a good option if you clean frequently, giving you a quick and convenient solution, says Katie Dills, senior vice president of The Cleaning Authority, a cleaning service with centers around the country. “They are easy to use, portable and their cleaning capabilities are versatile,” she says. “You can easily carry your vacuum up and down stairs, clean under and behind hard-to-reach places and more.” The lightness also makes them a great option for older adults and those with back pain, Dills points out.

              To choose the best lightweight vacuum for you, it’s important to consider factors like overall weight, what type of flooring you’ll primarily use your vacuum on, how much space you have to clean, whether you prefer corded or cordless and your budget. These are the best lightweight vacuums on the market to help make your cleaning experience a little easier. How We Chose The Best Lightweight Vacuums

              To choose the best lightweight vacuums, we consulted with two cleaning experts and a physiatrist to learn more about the important features the best lightweight vacuums possess, as well as what makes some models stand out from others. We then looked at bestsellers on the market and scrutinized each for elements like weight, ease of use, capacity and value. Reviews from real owners were also analyzed to see how well these machines perform across a range of households and flooring types.

              What To Look For In Lightweight Vacuums

              A lightweight vacuum is an investment, and it’s important to get it right from the start. Consider these elements as you shop.

              Type

              Vacuums have come a long way in the past decade, and there are now lightweight options for every type of the machines. Stick vacuums are known for being lightweight, but even some uprights fit the bill. Our top choice, the Eureka Airspeed Ultra-Lightweight, is under 8 pounds, for example. If you’re concerned about the ability to push a vacuum around, consider a canister version like the Prolux White TerraVac. It’s just 6 pounds, and the canister design makes it feel even lighter while you vacuum.

              Corded Vs. Cordless

              Vacuums come in corded or cordless versions. The right choice for you comes down to personal preference, as well as how much floor space you need to cover. “Cordless vacuums are more convenient because you can freely clean around your home without being plugged into an outlet,” Dills says. “However, cordless vacuum batteries do need to be recharged or replaced.” Corded lightweight vacuums have perks, too. “Corded lightweight vacuums tend to offer more consistent suction power and do not require recharging,” Doherty points out. “It ultimately depends on your cleaning needs and preferences.

              Weight

              There is no official designation for what classifies as a lightweight vacuum. However, these tools generally fall within the range of 6 to 13 pounds. Some vacuums, like the Dyson Cyclone V10 Animal, are even lighter than that, but it’s not typical. Weight is distributed differently depending on which style of vacuum you choose. Stick vacuums tend to carry most of the weight up high, while it’s more evenly distributed in upright vacuums. Canister vacuums involve towing weight behind you and can feel more lightweight to operate.

              Ease Of Use

              A vacuum needs to be easy to use or it will rarely make it out of the closet. At baseline, many lightweight vacuums are simple to operate—they don’t have lot of fancy bells and whistles and aren’t difficult to pull in and out of wherever you store them. They’re also simpler to tote up and down stairs than their regular-weight counterparts. Because of this, you may be more likely to tackle small vacuuming needs after investing in a lightweight vacuum, or even to just cruise around your floors whenever you have a spare moment.

              Included Attachments

              Not everyone uses or needs attachments, but experts say they can be a nice feature to have in a machine. “Attachments are an important aspect of using a vacuum as they allow you to clean different surfaces and areas more effectively,” Doherty says. Like many aspects of selecting a vacuum, the right attachments tends to be a personal choice. “The type and quantity of attachments you need will depend on your cleaning needs and the type of vacuum you have,” Doherty says. If you’re really into attachments, consider the Dyson V15 Cordless Stick Vacuum—it offers seven different choices for you to flip through when the need strikes.

              Which Is The Best Vacuum Cleaner For Senior Citizens?

              It depends on your individual needs. If you’re struggling with back issues, Mara Vucich, D.O., a physiatrist with The Maryland Spine Center at Mercy Medical Center, suggests considering an upright-style vacuum. “When we vacuum, it causes us to flex through the spine as we’re reaching out—that’s hard on the tissues and muscles in the back,” she says. “An upright would reduce that bending in the spine.” You can also consider a model like the Kenmore DS4095 Brushless Cordless Stick Vacuum—it bends for you to get under tight spaces. Most lightweight vacuums will be a good fit for seniors, though, because it’s less weight to push or pull around, as well as carry up stairs, Vucich says.

              How Do You Choose A Vacuum Cleaner If You Have Arthritis?

              Arthritis can surface in different areas of the body, and the right vacuum for you depends on where you have the disease. People with arthritis in their hands can benefit from a canister vacuum, like the Eureka WhirlWind or Prolux White TerraVac. Both aren’t top heavy and feel particularly lightweight to push around. The Kenmore DS4095 Brushless Cordless Stick Vacuum bends with the push of a button to get under tight spaces, making it a good choice for people with knee arthritis. Ultimately, it’s best to think about the type of arthritis you have and choose a vacuum from there.

              What Is The Ideal Weight Of A Lightweight Vacuum Cleaner?

              The ideal weight of a lightweight vacuum cleaner has a lot to do with the person who will be using it—what feels lightweight to one person may feel heavy to another. “Lightweight vacuums can range in weight, with the average weighing around eight to twelve pounds,” Dills says. “Although they weigh less than full-size vacuums, the ideal weight ultimately depends on personal preference.” For many people, the right weight falls between 5 and 10 pounds, Doherty says. “However, the weight can vary depending on the model and features,” she says. “While personal preference can play a role in choosing a vacuum, the weight itself is not person-dependent.”

              top-12 rating according to KP

              In the mass consciousness there is a stable stereotype: the more powerful the vacuum cleaner, the better it is. In fact, there is no direct relationship between these parameters. In addition, when talking about power, 2 concepts are often confused: rated power consumption and suction power. It is the second parameter that determines the quality of cleaning. But manufacturers most often indicate only the rated power. They can be understood: the suction power will depend on the type of surface and other parameters, it is simply impossible to give an absolute value.

              Let’s try to objectively look at the current range and choose the best powerful vacuum cleaners suitable for home use.

              Maxim Sokolov, an expert at the VseInstrumenty.ru online hypermarket, helped us choose the best powerful vacuum cleaners in 2023. We are grateful to him for the hints, since only an expert can see the picture objectively.

              How to choose a powerful vacuum cleaner

              Questions are answered by Maxim Sokolov, an expert at the online hypermarket VseInstrumenty.ru .

              — High power household vacuum cleaners are necessary for owners of a large apartment or cottage with a garage and utility rooms. The powerful technique is also used when caring for carpets and upholstered furniture. This issue is especially relevant for pet owners, when it can be difficult to remove hair from the floor, sofas and armchairs. Low-power vacuum cleaners have little suction power and are not able to effectively cope with such tasks.

              In addition to household cleaning, powerful household vacuum cleaners are often used in hotels, offices and cafes. They perform their function of maintaining cleanliness perfectly in public places.

              Which vacuum cleaners are considered powerful?

              For the household segment, we can conditionally assume that models from 1000 W are powerful. The upper power value can reach 2600W. They have a high suction power, as the vacuum exceeds 250 mbar. The higher the vacuum, the heavier debris can be sucked up by the vacuum cleaner. They are characterized by high performance in terms of intake air – from 50 l / s.

              What are the advantages of powerful models?

              • Effective cleaning of smooth and fluffy surfaces, care of home textiles.
              • Vacuuming heavy debris, dried mud, animal hair, grains and loose food.
              • Fast processing of large areas without the need to repeat the same area.
              • Good suction of dust and fine particles, which contributes to a healthy microclimate.

              Are there any disadvantages?

              • Large dimensions due to powerful motor and large dust container.
              • Risk of network congestion due to too much power.
              • High power consumption compared to low power counterparts.

              The expert refrained from specific recommendations to users: the choice is to be made independently, depending on specific needs.

              4. Sophisticated filtration system that reliably retains various harmful elements: hair, dust mites, pollen.
              5. Easy and quick change of nozzles: suction, crevice, dust.

              The manufacturer claims that this model is powerful enough to pick up up to 99.9% of all possible contaminants. The unit is powered by the mains, a 6-meter cable allows you to freely move it around the room. And although power adjustment is provided here, it will have to be done not on the handle, but on the body, which is not always convenient during cleaning.

              Karcher VC 3 Premium

              Nice model with bright yellow accents on the wheels and inside the dust container. This is a fairly light, super-compact device weighing 4.4 kg.

              VC 3 belongs to the “cyclone” type and has several significant advantages:

              • three levels of filtration, which allows not only to perfectly clean surfaces, but also not to pollute the air, trapping small particles, including allergens;
              • container and intermediate washable filter. After cleaning, it is enough to rinse them under running water;
              • cord does not get under your feet when the device is idle, because by pressing the rewind button, you can instantly remove it inside the case;
              • comes with a floor and carpet nozzle, for crevices and furniture cleaning.

              The disadvantages include not the largest capacity of the dust collector – only 0.9 liters.

              Thomas Twin Sigma Aquafilter

              Aqua 3-in-1 model: cleans carpets, mop floors, cleans up spills. The design provides for a box where water is poured before use. All removed dust and pollution fall into it and settle at the bottom of the tank. After cleaning, dirty water is poured out. As a result, there is no dispersion of dust and collected allergens when the dust collector is released (by the way, an increased volume of 4 liters).

              And that’s not all the pluses of one of the best bagless vacuum cleaners “Sigma Aquafilter”:

              1. Quality of work – the design of the aquafilter provides a constantly high suction power of debris.
              2. Versatility of use – different nozzles in the kit allow you to collect dry debris, clean furniture, wash linoleum, remove dirt from carpets to the entire depth of their pile.
              3. Ease of use – rubberized buttons on the body, automatic cord winding, mechanical power adjustment on the hose handle. Range – 9meters.

              Of the minuses, it is worth noting:

              • uneconomical in terms of energy consumption, which is not surprising at a power of 1600 W;
              • is not a light 8. 4 kg model, but has wheels for easy movement.

              Topic: Vacuum cleaner or robot vacuum cleaner: which is better – a comparison of equipment in 4 points Boasts the lowest power consumption of our bagless vacuum cleaner – 550 watts.

              The main advantages of RO7212EA are:

              • A transparent dust container that can be removed from the housing with one movement. You can monitor its fullness without opening the lid (there is also a fullness indicator). The plastic container is lightweight and easy to clean with water.
              • Hepa filter element. Due to which dust and other contaminants are not carried around the room during cleaning, but remain inside the vacuum cleaner.
              • Additional synthetic filter. This is a reusable item that can be cleaned with soap and water.
              • Mini turbo nozzle and parquet brush. The unit cleanly collects hair and hairs from carpets, from linoleum, laminate.

              Weight rather big – 6. 79 kg. But due to maneuverability and large all-terrain rubberized wheels, the vacuum cleaner is convenient to use. The price is available.

              Thomas Multy Cyclone PRO 14

              Easy to use, compact and stylish. The main actions are carried out by pressing a button: turning on – to start working, opening the dust collector lid – to pour out the garbage.

              Features of “Multi Cyclone Pro 14”:

              1. one large and 13 small cyclones are used for filtration. The device additionally purifies the air with a sponge filter, as well as a “Hepa” filter that can be washed;
              2. switchable carpet/floor nozzle glides easily with smooth metal base;
              3. narrow crevice nozzle is indispensable for cleaning radiators, baseboards, cleaning in other narrow hard-to-reach places;
              4. 2-in-1 nozzle cleans furniture by collecting debris on the surface and drawing dust from the lining layer, it can be used to clean polished surfaces, office equipment.

              What about the shortcomings – the design is as simple as possible, so there is no:

              • power switch,
              • spill clean-up options,
              • turbo brushes included.

              Bosch BGS05A220

              Super compact and lightweight, but also inexpensive. Despite the very “modest” cost, BGS05A220 does an excellent job with dry cleaning.

              Among its advantages it is worth highlighting:

              • the presence of a washable filter that traps even the smallest dust particles;
              • easy cleaning of the waste container: press once to remove it from the housing, second press to open the lid;
              • the presence of a plastic “bracket” on the body, which allows you to wrap and fix the hose around the vacuum cleaner and place it compactly in a closet, under a table, etc.;
              • telescoping handle that can be extended or lowered several positions upwards, adjusting to the user’s height.

              There are three disadvantages:

              1. There is no on/off button on the pipe. You have to reach for the body, and these are unnecessary body movements.
              2. Small trash compartment. After two cleanings, you will have to clean it.
              3. Small grip with standard brush. In the center – sucks, closer to the edges skips. Large debris collects poorly.

              The equipment here is minimalistic: a carpet and floor brush and a crevice brush, but for home cleaning this is quite enough.

              Electrolux EC41-2SW

              4.5 kg version in the most compact package. It moves easily and quietly on the floor due to the large rubberized wheels. It is completed with a universal brush with a switch for cleaning bristles, nozzles for cleaning furniture, crevice.

              Features of EC41-2SW:

              • thrust adjustment on the body, which allows you to clean the floor with a thick pile at maximum speed and reduce speed when you need to vacuum linoleum;
              • cyclone mechanism prevents clogging of the dust container during cleaning. The system separates large and small particles that are drawn inward;
              • Hepa fine filter freshens the air coming out of the vacuum cleaner. Perfectly removes microparticles of dust and allergens;
              • The 1.8 liter container allows you to clean a large area at once without worrying about the dust container being full.

              The only downside is the lack of a turbo brush in the kit, which on any surface well collects hair, wool, threads, etc.

              Philips 2000 Series XB2125/09

              The 1.3 liter container option makes it easy to clean surfaces thanks to versatile nozzles that can remove even the smallest dust particles. The cyclone filter traps all impurities, while PowerCyclone 4 technology provides high suction power for debris.

              XB2125/09 – the owner of a number of advantages:

              • dust flask can be emptied with one hand, quickly pouring out debris and not inhaling dust clouds;
              • the ability to attach the crevice nozzle to the body of the device during downtime, so it is easy to get it and less likely to get lost somewhere among things;
              • the total length of the telescope tube, hose and cord is enough for the duster to clean at a distance of 9 meters from the nearest outlet;
              • ergonomic and compact case – the device can easily be “squeezed” on a cabinet shelf or placed in a free corner without cluttering square meters.

              The disadvantages can be considered – lack of:

              • power adjustment;
              • additional nozzles, only the main ones – carpet / floor;
              • carrying handles on the body (only on the dust container).

              At the same time, the price tag for the model is more than affordable.

              Bosch BGS2POW1

              Medium budget dry cleaning option. Powerful, maneuverable, perfectly copes with the suction of household waste from a smooth and fleecy surface. With a turbo brush, you can easily collect animal hair, hair.

              Four strengths of Bosch BGS2POW1:

              • is equipped with a HEPA filter that traps the smallest dust particles and does not require constant replacement, only cleaning with water;
              • high-speed motor with a power consumption of only 750 W consumes energy economically, while coping with cleaning as well as more powerful options;
              • has several thrust modes from min to max, which can be adjusted by turning the wheel on the body;
              • The 7-meter cord allows you to clean even in large rooms without switching from socket to socket.

              To clean the container, you only need to open the lid and shake out the contents. The plastic container can be easily rinsed under running water.

              The BGS2POW1 does not come with a separate narrow crevice nozzle: it was combined with a furniture brush.
