Best Cricket Wireless phones in 2023

By

Updated

If you’re looking to buy a new phone from Cricket Wireless, here are some of the best options you can get right now.

As much as we like testing and recommending flagship phones here at XDA, we understand that it doesn’t make sense for many readers to spend thousands of dollars every year to buy the best devices out there. That’s why we make it a point to curate and maintain an updated list of budget phones and carriers offering prepaid plans and more. Contrary to what you may think, you can still enjoy many of the latest and greatest features without spending a fortune. Additionally, there are carriers like Cricket Wireless that offer phones and cellular plans at a more affordable price. If you are already on Cricket Wireless or want to transfer over, there are a lot of options available. Many of our favorite picks from Cricket Wireless’ catalog are considered entry-level or mid-tier phones, but we’ve also highlighted some premium options, including the iPhone 14 Pro.

Our favorite Cricket Wireless phones in 2023

Apple iPhone 14 Pro

Best iPhone overall

The iPhone 14 Pro brings a lot of noteworthy upgrades over the predecessor, including a new front design, upgraded cameras, and the powerful A16 Bionic chip. It comes in multiple finishes, and they’re all available to purchase from Cricket Wireless right now.

Pros

  • Premium design and build quality
  • Powerful A16 Bionic chip

Cons

  • The battery life could’ve been better
  • Proprietary Lightning port

$1000 at Cricket Wireless

Apple’s iPhone 14 Pro brings a lot of new features to the iPhone lineup for the first time, including a new cutout for the front camera and FaceID, a new 48MP sensor main camera sensor, an Always-On display, a new chipset, and more. All these upgrades make the new iPhone 14 Pro a true “Pro” iPhone that justifies the premium over the regular iPhone 14 models. It’s also readily available to purchase from Cricket Wireless in the U.S., making it a solid addition to this list.

One of the highlights of the iPhone 14 Pro is the new cutout on top of the display. Apple is calling it Dynamic Island, which is essentially a funky name for a cutout that becomes active based on the apps you use. Also new to the iPhone 14 Pro models is the A16 Bionic chip. Not only is it the most powerful mobile chip on the market right now, but it also enables some cool new features, including the new Always-On display.

The new 48MP main camera sensor is also a nice addition, allowing you to capture more detailed shots. We highly recommend you check out our iPhone 14 Pro Max review, where we go into detail about the new camera sensor and show off some samples. The regular iPhone 14 Pro and the Pro Max models are largely the same, except you get a bigger display and battery with the Max variant.

Cricket Wireless carries all four colors of the iPhone 14 Pro: Space Black, Silver, Deep Purple, and Gold. You can also choose between 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options, though some models are already running out of stock. You can either choose to pay the full price of the phone upfront or get it financed with $63 monthly payments.

Apple iPhone SE 3 (2022)

Best budget iPhone

The iPhone SE (2022) is the most affordable iPhone you can buy right now. While it’s not the most powerful one on the market, it still contains the great A15 Bionic chip, offering a lot of value for the money.

Pros

  • Powerful A15 Bionic chip
  • Guranteed longevity with software updates

Cons

  • Dated design
  • Low-res display

$480 at Cricket Wireless

Apple’s iPhone SE 3 is one of the best options for most users on the Cricket Wireless network, mainly from a price-to-performance point of view. This new model carries the same iPhone 8 body, but it comes with updated internals to match some of the newer iPhones on the market. There’s a lot to like about the iPhone SE 3, and it’s an excellent phone for those who don’t want to spend upwards of $1,000 on a new smartphone.

One of the best things about the iPhone SE 3 is that it comes with Apple’s A15 Bionic chip. This means the iPhone SE 3 is just as performant as the iPhone 13 series and even the new iPhone 14 and the iPhone 14 Plus models. Apple’s A-series chips are known to be powerful and more reliable than even some top-tier chips in the Android space. So it’s safe to say that the iPhone SE 3 will serve you well for many years.

The fact that the iPhone SE 3 carries the same design as the iPhone 8 also means it’s relatively compact in the sea of massive phones that are coming out these days. It’s also the only iPhone to use TouchID, which makes it unique by itself. The trade-off is obviously the massive bezels on the front that makes this phone look very old compared to the newer iPhones with a notch and Dynamic Island.

The iPhone SE 3 also runs the latest iOS 16 software, which means it gets some neat iOS features that you enjoy on some of the latest iPhones. Apple is also known to keep its devices on the latest software for a long time, so we expect the iPhone SE 3 to stay relevant even, say, 3 or 4 years down the line.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

Best Android phone overall

The Galaxy S21 FE is worth a look if you don’t want to spend upwards of $1,000 on modern Android phones. It’s an excellent budget phone that offers great value for money, especially for $500 at Cricket Wireless.

Pros

  • Good build quality
  • Affordable price tag

Cons

  • The cameras could’ve been better
  • Slow charging speeds

$300 at Cricket Wireless

The Galaxy S21 FE may not be the most premium Samsung smartphone right now, but it’s one of the best Android options on the Cricket Wireless network. The Galaxy S21 FE is a cheaper alternative if you don’t want to pay the full price for the new Galaxy flagships, so it trades some of the premium features for a relatively cheaper price tag.

There’s a lot to like about the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, including its FHD+ display that supports a 120Hz refresh rate. The AMOLED display gets bright enough and has vibrant colors with crisp visuals. The rear casing of the phone, as you can see, is made out of plastic, but we like how the camera island at the back melts into the rest of the shell instead of sticking out separately.

The Galaxy S21 FE is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC in the U.S. and a Samsung Exynos 2100 SoC nearly everywhere else. The variant sold on Cricket Wireless will come with the Snapdragon 888 chip. It’s not the fastest chip around, but it should be enough to help you get through your day-to-day workloads without any issues. The phone also comes with Samsung’s promise of three Android OS updates and four years of security patches.

As for the optics, we’re looking at a triple camera setup that includes a 12MP ultra-wide, a 12MP primary camera, and an 8MP telephoto camera. The photos captured using the Galaxy S21 FE are mostly on par with what you’d get from other modern Samsung phones, so no complaints. You can check out our Galaxy S21 FE review to check out some camera samples to get a better idea of what to expect.

Samsung Galaxy A54 5G

Best mid-range Android phone

The Samsung Galaxy A54 5G is a great mid-range phone. It offers a sleek design, a beautiful 120Hz display, plenty of power under the hood, and a triple camera setup on the back.

Pros

  • Beautiful OLED panel
  • Reliable day-to-day performance

Cons

  • Macro sensor is average at best
  • Slow charging speeds

$410 at Cricket Wireless

Samsung’s new Galaxy A54 is officially here, and it’s replacing its predecessor as the best mid-range Android phone in this collection. As we mentioned in our review, this particular phone brings a lot of noteworthy improvements over the outgoing to offer a better experience overall. Samsung has changed the design of this phone to make it look similar to its flagship phones.

As far as the internals are concerned, you are looking at Samsung’s in-house Exynos 1380 chip coupled with up to 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. You can add a microSD card to unlock more storage, so don’t let the 128GB base storage affect your purchase decision. The Galaxy A54 5G also has a beautiful 6.4-inch OLED panel with support for up to 120Hz refresh rate.

Samsung has also improved the optics this time around, and it’s a good package that helps you capture good photos and videos. You still can’t shoot 4K videos at 60fps using this phone, though, but it should be enough for casual users. The best thing about the Galaxy A54 5G is that it comes with Samsung’s update commitment, meaning you can expect it to receive four major Android updates and up to five years of security updates.

The Galaxy A54 5G is readily available to purchase from the Cricket Wireless website for $410, which is cheaper than what you’d pay for it at other retailers. It’s only available in the ‘Awesome Black’ color, so keep that in mind.

Motorola Moto G 5G (2022)

Best budget Android phone

The Moto G 5G (2022) offers a good set of internals for the price, delivering a decent budget phone experience overall. There is a lot to like about this particular phone and it’s a steal, especially when you can get it for free with a new line.

Pros

  • Long-lasting 5,000mAh battery
  • Carries an affordable price tag

Cons

  • Slow charging speed
  • The cameras could’ve been better

See at Cricket Wireless

The Moto G (2022) is one of the few budget phones available to purchase at Cricket Wireless. A lot of the older Moto G phones are solid budget phones, and the new Moto G 5G (2022) is no different. It may not move the needle in a meaningful way, but it offers enough value to earn a spot on our list over similarly-priced phones.

The new Moto G 5G has a very simple design that looks a lot like many other Moto phones that are available to purchase on the market. It’s got a simple plastic back panel with just the camera island and the Moto logo. It sports a 6.5-inch HD+ display with support for up to 90Hz refresh rate. The HD+ display is a little bit of a bummer, but it makes up for it with 90Hz refresh rate support.

The device is powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 700 chip which comes with up to 6GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The phone also supports expandable storage via a microSD card, which is great. One of the highlights of this particular phone is that it comes with a massive 5,000mAh battery inside. You can expect this phone to last for a long time between charges, but it only supports 10W charging, meaning it might take a while to get to 100%.

The Moto G (2022) comes with a triple camera setup at the back that includes a 50MP main sensor and two 2MP macro and depth sensors. Selfies, on the other hand, are handled by a 13MP front-facing camera. Best of all, you can get the Moto G 5G (2022) for free if you’re a new Cricket Wireless customer and activate a $60/mo plan.

Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G

Best budget phone with a stylus

The Moto G Stylus 5G can be had for free from Cricket Wireless provided you activate your number on the network with a $60/mo plan.

Pros

  • Excellent battery life
  • Included stylus

Cons

  • Limited performance

See at Cricket Wireless

If you don’t mind spending a little bit more money over the asking price of the regular Moto G 5G (2022), then we recommend checking out the Moto G Stylus 5G. You can also get a great deal on this phone at Cricket Wireless, making it a good addition to this list.

The Moto G Stylus isn’t the best-looking phone on the market, but it sticks to the basics and offers a tried-and-tested design with a plastic back. It comes in a couple of finishes, but Cricket Wireless is only offering the phone in ‘Steel Blue’ color, which is what we featured in our review. The back of the phone looks very simple, with just the camera island and a Moto logo in the center.

The highlight of the phone is obviously the included stylus. This is a passive stylus, meaning it doesn’t need charging, but it also doesn’t have Bluetooth, so it’ll have limited functionality. You can still use it for drawing on screenshots, doodling, writing notes, etc.

The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 695 chip, which performed quite well during our testing. This particular chip is no slouch, and it should be sufficient to run games like Diablo Immortal. It comes with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. You also get an option to expand the storage via a microSD card up to 2TB, so it’s great for those who install a lot of apps and games. The device also packs a 5,000mAh battery that should last a long time on a single charge.

All things considered, the Moto G Stylus is a good phone overall. Cricket Wireless will also let you have it for free when you bring your number and activate it with a monthly payment.

The best Cricket Wireless phones in 2023: Final say

Cricket Wireless’ catalog is fairly limited if you are browsing for phones that are directly sold by the carrier, and there aren’t too many high-end devices besides iPhones. That said, the iPhone 14 Pro is currently the best overall pick in this collection. It’s a high-end flagship that comes with a lot of bells and whistles and offers a well-rounded experience for the price. Of course, that means you’ll have to enter Apple’s walled garden, but it’s the only flagship on this list that’s easy to recommend. It comes with a lot of great features, including a beautiful Retina display with Dynamic Island, improved internals, a better set of optics, and more.

Those looking to pick up an Android instead will have to check out the Galaxy S21 FE or the new Galaxy A54 5G. You can bring any unlocked phone of your choice as long as it’s compatible with Cricket Wireless, but these are our top picks from the ones directly available to purchase from the carrier. We’ve also included some other options, including the Moto G 5G, so be sure to explore the entire list before making a purchase decision.

The best Cricket phones to spend your money on

Edgar Cervantes / Android Authority

If you’re gearing up for a move to one of America’s most affordable carriers, you might be ready for a new phone, too. Cricket Wireless is owned by AT&T, which means you already know you’ll get reliable service just about everywhere. Now, the hard part is to work your way through the best Cricket Wireless phones you can buy.

It would be easy to pick out all of Cricket’s most expensive phones and say they’re the best, but that’s not our goal. We’ve covered a full range of options for all users. That said, our list does work from most expensive to least, so make sure to consider your budget while you browse.

Buying the right Cricket Wireless phone for your needs

Picking up a new phone from Cricket is no different than buying one anywhere else. The first thing you’ll want to consider is whether you want to use Android or iOS. It will narrow your choices considerably if you choose iOS — leaving you with just the iPhone 13 series and the iPhone SE.

If you choose Android, you may also want to consider how much you’re willing to spend. You can choose from many free devices like the Moto G Play or the Samsung Galaxy A02s. Of course, there are quite a few discounted devices that can give you more bang for your buck, like the Samsung Galaxy A32 5G. If budget is no issue, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is Cricket’s most expensive Android phone.

Cricket Wireless is a GSM carrier, so any phone you buy or bring must support the correct bands. While this may not be a worry when buying a phone, it does help to know that you can bring that phone to carriers like T-Mobile and Mint Mobile next time you make a move.

The best Cricket Wireless phones

  • Apple iPhone 14 series: It may be the most expensive option Cricket offers, but the iPhone 14 series does it all. You have four models to choose, two of which carry the A16 Bionic chips, powerful new cameras, and Dynamic Islands.
  • Samsung Galaxy S21 FE: The Galaxy S21 FE follows one of 2020’s best launches with excellent cameras, a crisp display, and a 4,500mAh battery that lasts all day.
  • Samsung Galaxy A53 5G: Although it’s a step below the Galaxy S series, the Galaxy A53 leaves little to chance. It packs an IP67 rating, a 5G-ready Snapdragon processor, and a sharp 32MP selfie camera.
  • Apple iPhone SE (2022): Apple decided to revive its notch-less display and home button for one of the best affordable phones of 2022. While you only get one camera, the iPhone SE is a great pick if you want iOS without the cost.
  • Samsung Galaxy A23 5G: One of the most affordable 5G phones on the market, the Galaxy A23 offers a matching battery to its Galaxy A53 sibling and a flexible quad-camera setup.
  • Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G: If you want a stylus with your phone, there’s no other way to go. The Moto G Stylus is Motorola’s updated 5G-ready G series device, and it offers an all-day battery to go with.
  • Motorola Moto G Power (2022): The Moto G Power packs a crisp 48MP primary lens, a 5,000mAh battery, and a 6.5-inch LCD at a price that’s tough to beat.
  • Samsung Galaxy A13 5G: Samsung is bringing 5G to more devices than ever, and the Galaxy A13 is the most affordable way to tap into high-end speeds for yourself.

Apple iPhone 14 series: The best iOS experience

Robert Triggs / Android Authority

The iPhone 14 series is the best way to experience iOS on Cricket Wireless. Apple decided to switch things up this year, however, drawing a deeper line between the standard models and the Pros. Both the iPhone 14 and the new iPhone 14 Plus are almost identical to the previous iPhone 13, with A15 Bionic processors and the shrunken notches onboard. Above them, you’ll find both the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max rocking the new Dynamic Island. It replaces the notch and completely changes how you see notifications throughout the day.

The iPhone 14 series is the best way to try iOS on Cricket Wireless — especially the high-end Pro models.

As always, the Pro models are the best way to really sink your teeth into Apple’s hardware. They both adopt a newer A16 Bionic chipset to go along with crisp 120Hz displays. On the back, you’ll find a new 48MP main camera flanked by a familiar telephoto and ultrawide duo.

All four models come with iOS 16 straight out of the box, complete with new lock screen controls.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE: Cricket’s premium Android offering

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

While the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE didn’t blow us away in quite the same way as its predecessor, it’s still one of the best Cricket Wireless phones you can buy. It offers a crisp 120Hz display, a solid 4,500mAh battery with 25W fast charging, and a durable IP68 rating. Better yet, you can grab Samsung’s premium mid-ranger in a variety of colors, from Lavender to Olive.

Samsung chose the Snapdragon 888 to keep the lights on and backed it with up to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM. You can choose from either 128 or 256GB of storage, but expansion is no longer an option. The Galaxy S20 FE offers a trio of rear cameras, but the 32MP selfie shooter is still the sharpest of the bunch.

No matter how much you use the cameras, Samsung’s crisp 120Hz Super AMOLED display will always be the star of this show. It’s an Infinity-O panel, so you’ll notice the punch hole right away. The Full HD+ resolution is great for streaming your favorite shows, and the Gorilla Glass Victus construction means it can take a tumble or two.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G: Great build quality for under $500

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

The Galaxy A53 5G is another step down Samsung’s ladder as far as pricing is concerned, but it offers excellent value. It’s one of the best Cricket Wireless phones you can get with 5G and a solid primary camera for under $500.

While the Galaxy S20 FE offered Gorilla Glass 3 durability, the A53 5G ups the ante with Gorilla Glass 5. You’ll also find an in-display fingerprint reader and an IP67 rating in case of water or dust. Samsung may not have packed the most powerful chip in the Exynos 1280, but it’s nice to see up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage on the mid-range device.

The Galaxy A53 5G offers plenty of polish over the previous generation with a great 64MP camera to boot.

Keeping that processor running is a 5,000mAh battery with 25W wired charging and no wireless charging to speak of. The Galaxy A52 5G also carries a 64MP primary camera, which is probably the only one worth using. The 5MP macro feels like a gimmick, and the 12MP ultrawide lens isn’t always the sharpest. On the bright side, the 32MP selfie shooter delivers good results binned down to 8MP.

Samsung Galaxy A53 5G

A well-rounded mid-ranger with plenty of support

Samsung’s latest Galaxy A50 series phone is more of an evolution over the A52 5G rather than a revolution. The Galaxy A53 5G brings familiar features like a quad rear camera system, IP67 rating, and 25W charging. But you also get welcome upgrades like a 5,000mAh battery, Exynos 1280 SoC, four years of OS updates, and five years of security updates.

Pros

  • Large 120Hz display

Cons

  • Weak secondary cameras

Apple iPhone SE (2022): The classic iPhone experience

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

We all remember the first iPhone SE, complete with bright colors and a classic design. Apple decided to bring its “Special Edition” phone back for 2022 with updated internals and a familiar overall design. It’s still one of the best ways to get an iPhone on Cricket Wireless, especially for the price.

The latest iPhone SE (2022) launched with Apple’s powerful A15 Bionic chipset onboard. It’s the same as you’ll find on the iPhone 13 series, and delivers benchmark results that are off the charts. One thing that hasn’t benefitted the iPhone SE is the 4.7-inch LCD panel. It’s not very big, but the bezels are sizeable, and it doesn’t get as bright or dim as newer OLED options.

However, if you long for the days of Touch ID, this is the iPhone for you. It’s the last model to launch with the classic home button, and it’s safe to expect any future iPhone SE to move to a notched design. You’ll also want to consider the battery life given Apple’s tiny 1,821mAh cell.

Apple’s most affordable iPhone is back. You should have no problems keeping up thanks to the A15 Bionic chip onboard, and the familiar design brings back Touch ID once more.

Samsung Galaxy A23 5G: A smart Samsung entry point

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

Galaxy A23 5G

We’ve already seen what the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G can do, but its more affordable sibling is excellent in its own right. The Galaxy A23 5G is one of the most affordable 5G phones around, and it’s one of the best value Cricket Wireless phones right now.

The Galaxy A23 5G is one of the best sub-$300 5G experiences on the market right now.

You can probably think of the Galaxy A23 as a scaled-down version of the Galaxy A53 — it offers a slightly smaller display, a somewhat weaker processor, and more modest base options. However, the 5,000mAh battery is tough to wear down, and the 50MP main shooter delivers impressive results in most situations. The Galaxy A23 5G also moves from an in-display fingerprint sensor to a side-mounted one, and it’s impressively quick.

Motorola Moto G Stylus 5G: Stylish with a stylus

Eric Zeman / Android Authority

Moto G Stylus

Cricket Wireless and Motorola go hand in hand, especially when it comes to the G series. The Moto G Stylus 5G has been updated for 2022, and it’s still priced to move. However, the key feature of Motorola’s Moto G Stylus is the built-in stylus pen. With LG out of the smartphone game, it’s one of few ways to get your hands on a stylus outside of Samsung’s premium Note line.

Motorola’s blue  finish is a real eye-catcher on the Moto G Stylus 5G. It highlights the build quality on this large — and we mean large — 6.8-inch phablet. The display itself is made of glass, but the rest of the device is crafted from a polycarbonate material that tends to pick up a few fingerprints here and there.

You can choose between 6 and 8GB of RAM on your Moto G Stylus 5G, along with up to 256GB of storage. The Snapdragon 695G SoC provides you with enough power to get through your day as well as 5G access. Be prepared to spend a while at an outlet, as the 5,000mAh battery packs just 10W charging.

Motorola Moto G Power (2022): Battery life for days

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

Moto G Power rear cameras

The Moto G Power is the next Motorola device to consider for your Cricket Wireless adventure. It’s an absolute battery monster, thanks to the 5,000mAh cell and the lack of 5G. While you won’t find the most incredible speeds around, you should easily see the Moto G Power last two days on a single charge.

Motorola also tapped a 50MP main camera to lead the way on the back panel, and it delivers good results most of the time. The Cutout feature is also fun if you want to go beyond portrait mode and turn yourself into a sticker. The Moto G Power features a 6.5-inch display with up to 128GB of storage, and the 4GB of RAM is a nice bump over previous models.

The 50MP main camera is good fun, especially with Cutout mode.

MediaTek’s Helio G37 isn’t the most impressive and is a side-step from the 2021 model at best. Unfortunately, the Moto G Power is only due for one Android update, which carries it to Android 12 and no further.

Samsung Galaxy A13 5G: The most affordable 5G Cricket Wireless phone

Ryan Haines / Android Authority

Samsung’s Galaxy A13 is the last pick on our list of the best Cricket Wireless phones. It sacrifices some of the Galaxy A53’s camera features to cut down on the price, yet it keeps smooth 5G speeds. You get a 6.5-inch HD+ display for your money, and Samsung loaded up a hefty 5,000mAh battery.

The Moto G Play comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage out of the box, but you can always expand with the microSD slot. It’s disappointing to see Samsung bring Android 11 to a device launched in 2022, but the Galaxy A13 packs a solid update commitment. You’ll also find a capable 50MP main camera that’s on par with affordable rivals from Motorola and Nokia.

Samsung Galaxy A13 5G
