SAMSUNG CURVED TV – SEE MORE FEEL
A major breakthrough in picture quality comes from Nano Crystal Color technology, which dramatically increases the realism of the on-screen picture.
At the same time, the new TVs retained their former advantages – high UHD resolution (4K) and readiness to work with 3D content (using branded shutter-type 3D glasses). In the review, we will talk about all the innovations and composition of the SUHD TV line in a new type of screen.
To begin with, let’s recall that the main advantage of curved TVs is the enhanced effect of immersion in what is happening on the screen. When the viewer sits in front of the curved screen in the center and at an optimal distance, his gaze falls almost perpendicular to any part of the screen. At the same time, the picture is perceived as more voluminous and solid in terms of color saturation and contrast (50–80% higher than on flat screens), the viewer stops seeing the border of the screen and goes headlong into the unfolding action.
Compared to a flat screen, the picture looks more impressive and realistic on a curved screen, even when viewed slightly from the side, which often happens when several viewers have gathered in front of the TV.
Moreover, no matter what angle you look at the screen of the new SUHD TVs, the picture will not lose its brilliance, attractiveness and realism.
The curved screen surface of SUHD TVs further reduces glare by working in tandem with Ultra Clear Panel (Samsung’s patented technology for enhancing TV screens in bright sunlight and artificial light by using multiple layers of screen coating with different reflectivity) .
Another nice feature of the curved TV is the visual increase in screen size compared to the same diagonal flat TV.
Samsung’s picture enhancement recipes
All 2015 SUHD TVs feature state-of-the-art image processing technologies. In addition, in this generation, their list has been replenished with new ones, which have a key impact on the improvement of the video picture. Although the resolution of the screen matrix remained the same – UHD, the developers from Samsung managed to ensure that every glare of the sun shone brightly on the screen, deep night shadows became truly black, every small detail was clearly drawn, concerts, carnivals and feasts began to play with rich colors, but at the same time, people retained their natural skin color, and restrained tones remained as they are in life.
All this is well described in one word – realism.
Samsung’s current line of top SUHD TVs is distinguished by the use of Nano Crystal Color technology, which just brought the quality of the screen image to a new, very high level. This proprietary version of Quantum Dot technology, through the use of nanocrystalline semiconductors, dramatically improved the detail and color reproduction of images.
The color gamut of the new TVs has expanded by almost 20% (to 1 billion colors) compared to the previous generation of UHD TVs, and now almost completely covers the color space described in the DCI-P3 (Digital Cinema Initiative) standard, which developed and supported by all modern film studios. This means that the owner of a SUHD TV will watch movies in the highest possible quality today.
The screens of the new Samsung TVs, in addition, have become even brighter and will retain this property for a long time without “burn-in” – in the SUHD TV line with Nano Crystal Color technology, the efficiency of the backlight system has become 20% higher than in the previous generation, and in the blue LEDs used in it are three times longer life.
The realism of the on-screen image in SUHD TVs has also been improved by updating the Auto Depth Enhancer technology.
In previous generations of TVs, this technology was only able to separate the foreground from the background, but now it works not only at the level of plans, but also objects, and this makes it possible to highlight what is happening in the foreground by increasing contrast and brightness precisely in this area.
Local backlight control helps improve contrast with deeper blacks, color and detail on SUHD TVs. The UHD Dimming program is responsible for its optimization, which divides the screen into 1152 areas, continuously analyzes the current image and manages each of the selected areas separately.
Samsung SUHD TVs use two technologies simultaneously to expand the dynamic range of backlight brightness. The first – Peak Illuminator – is responsible for increasing the brightness of the LED backlight in certain bright areas of the image, and the second – Precision Black – for local dimming of the screen (reducing the brightness of the backlight) to obtain deeper blacks.
This double processing greatly enhances the image contrast. Night scenes look especially impressive: if a bright source of light appears in the frame, then now it is really bright, if there is pitch darkness around it, then it is really black.
SUHD TV owners can enjoy a variety of video content in ultra-high definition, with enhanced color and detail, because Samsung TVs use a technology called UHD Upscaling to enhance the quality of any video. Her job is to scale the video image and improve its quality to approach the level of UHD.
The new version of UHD Upscaling works in four steps. The first one analyzes the input signal, the second one eliminates noise in it, the third one increases the resolution (directly upscaling), and the fourth one improves image detail.
Design and specifications of 2015 SUHD TVs
The 2015 flagship SUHD TV line-up features curved screens using Nano Crystal Color technology.
The line includes the following series: JS9500, JS9000, and JS8500, each of which is represented by three models with different screen sizes. At the same time, the screens of all these models have a resolution of 3840×2160 – Ultra High Definition (UHD, 4K), which is four times higher than the Full HD standard (1920×1080).
All SUHD TV models provide full support for multimedia entertainment, as their advantages include not only a perfect video picture, but also powerful surround sound. The built-in speakers of the new TVs support multi-channel sound technologies – Dolby Digital Plus, virtual surround sound – DNSe + (Digital Natural Sound Engine) and DTS Premium Sound 5.1 codec.
For JS9 series TVs500 and JS9000, the main electronic filling and all interface connectors are placed in a separate module that connects to the TV with just one cable using the proprietary One Connect interface.
The filling of the electronic unit includes: an eight-core processor, two digital TV tuners (DVB-T2 / C / S2), an analog tuner (for connecting a collective antenna or cable TV), a slot for a CI + online services access module (version 1.
3 ), four HDMI inputs, component and composite AV inputs, optical and 3.5 mm audio outputs, Ex-Link (RS-232C) connector, IR sensor input (for remote control operation), built-in Ethernet network modules and Wi-Fi (802.11 ac), USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports for working with external media or connecting a camcorder (for JS9000).
JS9500 series
The 2015 SUHD TV series is the top series in 65″, 78″ and 88″ screen sizes. The bending radius of all these screens is 4.2 meters. The body of the TV is made in the design of Real Metal Grand Chamfer.
Sleek metal bezel with a matte finish. From the sides it is flat, and from the side of the screen it has bevels inward, which makes it visually seem even thinner and more elegant.
The TV is equipped with a beautiful and sturdy Y-shaped stand, which makes the device very stable. At the same time, the polished surface of this part, due to the reflection of the environment, creates the effect of the TV hovering in the air.
Built-in 4.2CH speaker system with a high total power of 70 W (RMS) and consists of four forward facing speakers: two main (20 W each) and two subwoofers (15 W each). Such a serious sound equipment allows you to use the TV not only for watching video content, but also for high-quality listening to music (the TV has a screen off function).
The JS9500 series features a built-in camera located above the screen in the middle. With its help, the functions of video conferencing, face recognition of the owner and control using gestures are implemented. The camera is equipped with a mechanism that allows you to quickly bring it into working position with a light touch with one finger or just as easily hide it in a special niche in the case.
The JS9500 series offers the highest picture quality of any SUHD TV with a PQI (Picture Quality Index) rating of 2400 for all models. 64 times more than conventional UHD TVs (up to 1.
07 billion colors). As a result, the color gamut is 93% of DCI-P3 standard.
JS9000 Series
The JS9000 Series is available in 48″, 55″ and 65″ models.
The 48-inch model screen bend radius is 3 meters and the 55- and 65-inch models are 4.2 meters. The PQI (Picture Quality Index) of this series is estimated to be 2000.
The JS9000 series has an innovative Shirring Design chassis. The matte silver screen frame is flat on the side of the screen, but rounded on the sides and forms a slight bend, connecting to the rear panel.
The rear panel has a corrugated surface and a silver metallic finish. This allows it to look beautiful in any placement in residential premises and offices.
The JS9000 series is equipped with a sleek and secure Y-shaped stand that provides high stability and the effect of dissolving the screen into space.
Built-in 4.2CH speaker system with a total output of 60 W (RMS) and four forward facing speakers: two main speakers (20 W each) and two subwoofers (10 W each).
JS8500 series
A feature of the JS8500 series models is that some of the electronic equipment and interfaces are built directly into the TV case: a quad-core processor, two digital TV tuners (DVB-T2 / C / S2), an analog tuner (for connecting a collective antenna or cable TV), component AV input, 3.5 mm audio output, USB 3.0 port for working with external media or connecting a video camera, Ex-Link connector (RS-232C), built-in Ethernet and Wi-Fi (802.11 ac) network modules and a One Connect connector for connecting an external One Connect Mini module. This compact expansion module contains several more interfaces (4 x HDMI, 3 x USB, optical audio output), allowing you to work with a large number of external content sources, as well as organize a home theater using additional audio equipment connected.
The JS8500 series is available in 48″, 55″ and 65″ TV models.
The 48-inch model screen bend radius is 3 meters, and the 55-inch and 65-inch models are 4.
2 meters. The JS8500 has a PQI (Picture Quality Index) of 1900.
Round Metallic design. The screen frame is flat, in front it has a “Dark Titan” color. The side bezel of the screen is also flat and made of matte silver metal.
The TV is equipped with a T-shaped polished metal stand, the horizontal part of which follows the curve of the screen.
The 2.2CH type JS8500 series TV speaker system consists of four forward facing speakers: two main speakers and two subwoofers, all 10W.
Manage and manage content
Samsung Smart TVs not only impress with great screen images and sound quality, but also with ease and convenience of operation. They are equipped with remotes that allow you to give commands by voice or by moving the cursor on the on-screen menu. If the TV is equipped with a camera (built-in or external), then gesture control becomes available.
You can control Samsung SUHD TVs not only with the above options, but also with any smartphone.
It is enough to install the Samsung Smart View 2.0 application on it and connect it to the TV via Wi-Fi. The application is available in the Samsung Galaxy Apps branded application store, as well as in stores for Android (Google Play), iOS (App Store) and Windows operating systems.
But remote control is just one of the useful features of the Smart View app. Another, no less interesting, is the exchange of data between a mobile device and a TV. Whereas in the past, pairing a Smart TV with a mobile device required quite a lot of steps, now it is enough to activate Bluetooth LE on a smartphone and a Samsung Smart TV, after which the devices will automatically recognize each other and establish a connection. If such a connection has been established at least once, by turning on Bluetooth LE on your smartphone, you can “wake up” the switched off TV. Samsung SUHD TVs can connect up to six smartphones. Smartphone-to-TV wireless connection and Samsung Easy Sharing make it possible to share files directly.
It is very convenient to view content recorded on a smartphone or received directly from the Internet, such as from online cinemas to which the smartphone user has a subscription, on a large screen.
Such content can be managed (including the creation of watch lists) using the My Content application installed on Smart-TV.
Equally interesting is the use of a large TV screen to display a game the user is playing on a mobile computer. However, the wireless connection allows you to send content in the opposite direction. For example, moving around the apartment, you can continue to watch on the smartphone screen a movie received by the TV from some source (from a satellite receiver, a pay channel, an online cinema, etc.).
Linking your smartphone to your TV will also help you start your day effectively with a personalized morning view on your Samsung TV. The Morning Review function will synchronize it with the alarm clock on your smartphone and then display all the important information on the TV screen, such as the weather forecast and the daily schedule.
